Sooo do I have the acoustic windshield? I have a 2018 STX. If not, should I pay for an upgrade?

I have an aftermarket windshield. The OE Sound Shield was just too expensive. I've never really noticed any difference in road or wind noise.

Totally agree. My nearest one in the Phoenix area is not good. I have had numerous issues, and not just on my truck. I think I will try a local the next time.

How do I know if I have the factory sound shield glass?

On mine, it is marked. WHile in drivers seat, lower left corner of glass says "Sound Screen."

If you choose Safelite, you can have them install OE glass (has the SoundScreen insulation) for about an extra $50, I believe. Mine was $448.94 out the door due to having the camera assembly thing up there. They also tried to rip me off for an additional $300 to do ADAS calibration and I said no thanks I’ll take the risk. It works perfectly fine post-replacement.

Personally, I took it to their shop because I wanted it done indoors for cleanliness.

If you create a quote and wait a while, you’ll eventually get a $50 coupon too: “E50M”.

Note: Safelite out the OE SoundScreen glass on my truck but I don’t think it says “SoundScreen” anywhere like the old glass did in the driver side, bottom corner. When I asked them about the “OEE” glass they provide by default, they told me it also had sound insulation but I didn’t believe them and I’d rather stick to OE parts as much as possible.

I'd shop around for local reputable glass companies in your town. My coworker just his window replaced in his newer gmc for 180 bucks. The thing is you can put a new windshield in and have it cracked again the next day has happened to me. So I'd shop price in install reputation. Dealerships farm there window replacements out.

I did that once, shopped for a windshield for my 89, by price. A month or so in, the mirror fell off taking a chunk of glass with it! It was a pain getting them to warranty the cheaper glass! Never again!

Why would you consider the dealer for anything but warranty repairs? Plus you would be overpaying for the cheap, soft Chinese OEM glass.

There are many other options than Safelite, they also come to you, many provide better quality at a lower price than Safelite.
