Default Core charge for a tail light lens?

Does anybody know why there would be a core charge on the lens for the tail light? 50 bucks seems kinda ridiculous for a lens that is cracked....

Can't just swap a lense. It's the entire tail lights.

Which side did you need and what model? I have an extra non- LED standard taillight for the drivers side sitting around somewhere in my garage

Ford has a core charge on a few things like that to discourage the development of a reconditioned parts aftermarket.

They have a substantial core charge on some bumper facias, also.

I suppose it also encourages the recycling of parts that would otherwise be tossed into the garbage bin, too.

It is a driver side. I ended up just ordering it despite the core charge. Thank you though.

no problem. it was cheaper for me to buy the pair in the classifieds than buying new from the dealer.

Why? Aftermarket companies go around gathering up lights and bumpers, then repair them. They then sell them back to customers and body shops. Insurance companies love "Factory reconditioned parts." They write estimates for them specifically because it's less money they have to pay. But the reality is, they are repaired terribly from these companies, and eventually fail, sometimes you get lucky though. Ford takes the core, and recycles them to discourage a lesser than Oem part being used

Ford has had a core on bumpers and lights for years, it's not new
