ThermoElectricalDevice you can check it out on Wikipedia but basically if the electric current flows one direction through it it heats, reverse the polarity and it cools.

Sooooo,

Why would the seat work and not the seat back? Are the TEDs separate, like why would one area work and another not work?

No biggie though, drop it off when the parts come in, go to work and pick it up after. Easy day.

bottom freezes 'em solid, nothing on the back so I figure they are separate units.

Got mine back from dealer yesterday after having it for 2 days. Service writer says the tech spent a lot of time on the phone with Ford Tech Support. Resolution - Ford is aware that the seats aren't "cooling as efficiently as they should", but they are cooling. They are working on a fix. He will let me know when he has more info. What a crock of ...!!

I didn't have a real issue with the back getting hot, just the bottom not cooling good. Well guess what?? Now the driver's side back is getting quite warm and the bottom isn't cooling any better than it did. Should have left well enough alone!!

They did manage to fix the issue with the moon roof not closing properly.

So I went to the dealer this morning with the IR camera to meet with the service dept. We shot 3 new 15 F150's. All of them showed the back of the seats cooling. Mine still only cools the bottom.
Hopefully this will get the ball rolling as now they have info to talk to Ford with and I do not think the techs believed me before but now they do.
Still love the truck!

This blows!

Just got done with a 5 hour road trip to see some family. It's a beautiful day, suns out, had the Moonroof open, and really wanted the cool seats!!!

Turns seat back gets hot instead of cold and busts are barely cooling anymore. Tried cycling power, no change.

I guess the cooled seats are actually warming seat backs.

Not pleased!

Default Cooling Seats - Are Your Seat Backs Working Properly?

So with the TED getting that hot is there a way to disable just the back TED and leave the lower TED functional? I like the cooled seats a lot and was a major deciding factor between lariat and XLT.

I was wondering this as well. Right now, due to my seat back getting so hot, I cannot even use the A/C seats at all.
