Pete, Prior to 2018, the seats all used TEDs to "cool" and heat the seats. It was in 2015 when they removed the intake and exhaust ducts in the original production where the "hot spot" issue and reduced seatback cooling arose.

See my post #5244 for the comparison of 2018 Ventilated seating vs. prior years using TED system....AZPLAT

Default My fix for cooling seat problem

Here is how I fixed the cooling seat problem in my 2015 platinum. It's a bit low tech but works good. 1" electrical conduit and aluminum tape. Total cost $15. Plenty of hot air flowing out of the exhaust tube.

One last question. If I already have the sock, would I just need the exhaust only? If the exhaust is installed only, would you see an improvement with the intake hose over the intake sock?

In my experience the answer was YES.

Nice Job, Jefferskn......That hot exhaust air would otherwise have remained in the seatback cavity around the TED.....not desirable!!

Under the seat skins it functions the same.... who knows if it is an elegant Tim kit or "Redneck Engineering"....no offense intended.... my motto is "Get 'er done"..... and you did!!.....AZPLAT

Well.... according to some Forum Members, the intake "sock" can sometimes collapse..... cannot attest to this myself.... but putting the kit with dual intake/exhaust ducting in will optimize
your 2015+ system....AZPLAT

I just picked up my 16 Lariat SuperCrew last Saturday and I noticed that the cooling of the front seat does not seem up to par. The fan kicks on at a high speed and drops in speed. The seat will get cool but nothing like the rental Expedition I had for a few days.

How do I know what is the norm for the heating and cooling on the seats?

For me the norm seems to be when set on high, ice cold on my butt and nothing noticeable on my back. I'm hoping this kit evens that out to where I use the seat coolers on medium and both back and butt are cool.
