Cooling Seats issue and TSB feedback
#731
I followed up with my dealer today because my seats were inspected by a mechanic a few weeks ago. The service writer told me that there is no fix for the seats at this time, and the problem is the result of poorly engineered seats. Ford is working on a fix, and the dealer will let me know when the fix is available.
At least Ford admitted the seat was poorly engineered. Hopefully the fix is available before summer is over.

If you look at the picture of the TED above you will see a white filter...that is the intake...there IS no input hose......
So, per an earlier post, some tech concluded that the INPUT was "kinked" and a new TED is on order with adjustable input....see below from 'Bama's earlier post...
Got my truck back from the dealer yesterday evening. They stated the design of the current TED doesn't allow them to adjust it where the intake hose is not kinked. They have ordered a different TED that is supposedly adjustable. They believe this will fix it. Ordered one for both seats. Will provide and update once they come in and part numbers of it does fix it.
Folks, I for one do not think the field folks have ANY grip on this issue and I can only hope that some Ford Engineers with a positive IQ are working on a real fix for us....maybe a different TED but most probably a REAL exhaust duct system like Dave DSTRAT1 "engineered"...maybe both.....just MHO!!

HAS Ford admitted the issue!?

Anyone who takes a serious look at this problem can see there is a real issue afoot.....however....I have not seen a single OFFICIAL Ford admission of the problem, there is no TSB issued and no hint that plant people are assembling anything different in the seats addressing this problem while vehicles fly out the plant doors....have I missed something.
Ford......step up to the plate on this one please!! I would love to have one of our Ford folks give us some written assurance that the problem is acknowledged, that word is being proactively sent to dealers techs and that we should have a reason to trust that this WILL be fixed without further action on our parts.......

Hi Guys,
I just got my truck back from my dealer and got the dreaded "its operating like it should be" even though my seat back are considerably warmer than my bottoms. So when I got home I just did a little experiment on my own. I drove the truck home form the dealer and left the truck running for around 5 minutes in the driveway with the cooled seats on and measured the temperature on both the seat back and bottoms. The seat backs measured between 90 - 92 degrees and the bottoms measured between 78 - 82 degrees. I am guessing the differences would be larger after around 30 minutes but I didnt want to spend that much time. The service tech said they performed tests on the seats and verified that they are working as designed. Anyone have an idea of what "tests" they would perform?

Yea it is pretty annoying considering my seats worked pretty well in my 2013. Have most dealers at least acknowledged that there is a problem? My dealer told me that he has never had a complaint like mine but I really cant believe that since it is a large dealership.
What is the process in getting ford service involved? There really isnt a reason to take it back to the dealer without some help because they will tell me again that there is no problem.

Add me to the list as well. I mentioned this and the service advisor said it doesn't cool your back. I never knew it was supposed to as from day 1 the back has never cooled.

Workaround
Until Ford gives us a ducting solution for the TED, my workaround has been to unzip the leather seats. This allows the warmer exhaust to escape from the seat back and the seat backs begin to cool instantly. I know, I know, definitely not what I had in mind as a temporary solution in a $60k truck!!

Cooling Seats - Are Your Seat Backs Working Properly?
My seat back has been unzipped since I left the dealer and it still doesn't cool. Sometimes it will start to and then stop. Either way, got the call that the new parts are in. Scheduled to drop it off on Monday. Fingers crossed

I received a call from the area CSM they said Ford is working on it but doesn't have a fix yet. When they do they will send out the TSB. So I went to my dealership to fill out a repair order so they will call me when they receive the TSB. The dealership said they won't touch the truck without the TSB. I hope they fix yours and that gets the ball rolling for the rest of us. Good luck.
