Cooling Seats issue and TSB feedback

computer glitch??
I have a 2010 F150 supercrew that I have owned for almost 2 years. The A/C seats worked GREAT until a couple weeks ago an now I am having the same problem as most of you are describing. (barely cool seat bottom, hot back, worse on the drivers side) in reading all of these posts, it seems like the problem has occurred around the same time frame for everyone, which is an AMAZING coincidence. And since Ford seems to be struggling to determine a physical hardware problem, I am wondering if this isn't a computer/software problem??? I have not seen a schematic (I bought this truck so that I wouldn't have to work on it), but I am assuming that just about every control goes thru the computer, (ie, this system is not isolated and the switch doesn't go directly to a relay to directly power the seat fan & A/C) assuming that is correct, say that there was a glitch/bug/virus in the software that said after June 1 (or what ever date), whenever the seat A/C is turned on, it turns on the heater instead or as well???
This is just a thought, feel free to tell me that this isn't possible, but this is the only way that I can explain how so many people BEGAN experiencing the same problem AT THE SAME TIME.
that's my 2 cents.....

Well from the number of failures, it appears that it is "normal" for the seat backs to not cool.
What is so irritating about all this is that Ford has not at least issued some sort of advisory to all the service departments to make them aware that there "may be" an issue with the seats cooling. In this advisory, they could at least inform them of what the seats should do and what to look for so that we don't have service departments wasting our time and their time with bull****. Especially the departments that say the backs should not be cooling. At least give them all a consistent line of bull**** so they don't look like idiots when some of them say the seat backs should not cool. Also give them a consistant method of testing and reporting so good data is collected and passed up to engineering.
To fellow posters, can we all agree to stop speculating about whether the back of the seats 'should' be cooling? We know they 'should' be cooling.
1. Most if not all of us experienced them cooling for at least some period of time.
2. We have seen a parts diagram showing that there is a cooling unit in both the top and bottom areas of the seat.
3. We have seen a picture of the seat back cover off showing that the upper cooling units are installed and so should be cooling the backs of the seats.
Furthermore, can we all agree to stop speculating whether only the lumbar area of the seat back should cool? From the parts diagram and the open seat back picture, we see that the cool air discharge is in the middle of the seat back and so we know that the entire seat back should get cool air. Granted the cool air will drop and so the lumbar area may get a little cooler, and in heat mode the top of the seat get a little warmer but the entire back of the seat should be conditioned not just the lumbar area like some Ford reps have been stating.
I suggest that we take the pictures of the seat diagram and the open seat back from prior posts, to the service department when taking the truck in, to educate the service departments that may still be inclined to say that the seat backs are not supposed to cool.

I am no fanboy of ford, but I think they are floating this as a correction and a loop hole for them.
I don't think anyone really knows how much of the back should or should cool, yet!

Your filters could be clogged. The filter on the bottom fan is a fabric like filter. I just replaced mine with the new updated filter that is plastic with holes in them. It works much better now. Your back seat filter is also fabric like and wraps around the fan. Remove it and shake it out. I just did that and my back cools great now.

This is so frustrating... this is my first Ford truck and I went for all the tech and amenities, especially the cooled seats because I live on the Gulf Coast in Texas. It is hot as hell and these seats don't work. My sisters Explorer Sport seat bottoms and back cooling works and my Dads 14 f150 bottom and back cooling works as well. This is a design flaw and if Ford is not standing behind their product I will look elsewhere for my future vehicle purchases if they don't come up with a reasonable resolution.... (currently own 13 mustang gt, 12 focus, 15 f150) Sorry for the rant. But I just got out of my truck with swamp ***. When I bought the swamp *** reduction feature.

I wanna just chime in and say that after my dealer said it looked good and the rep told me to get a second opinion if i felt they were wrong...
I know the seat gets cold as we've ll said countless times, but in the lumbar area, where the cooling is SUPPOSED to be working is preciously where I feel absolutely NO cold air nor does it get cooler in any way with the seats AC on and the trucks AC on.
If I sit in the seat it gets warmer the longer it runs - if I'm NOT sitting in the seat with them running it's gets warm the moment my back is touching it - as theres no flow there, only cold air from the dash vents cooling the surface.
The lumbar is supposed to cool, dealer says it looks good (they didn't actually test it, they just lifted the back of the seat and looked) and it doesnt "cool" at all.

Phase one is solved...unzipped the seat back, as shown in the photos the fan connected to the TED and then a completely disconnected duct....one tie wrap and it is connected now...so the seatback, of the platinum has cooling, if it is connected..You can see part of the filter behind the protective cover, and the vent above the white sticker on the TED was venting warm air to the ambient area one photo show it as found, the other once connected....both photos should be rotated 90 degrees to the right
This is a priceless picture! Thanks for sharing.

in addition you can see the inlet is about three inches from the hot air exhaust, i tried to duct the hot air away and provide cool air from the seat bottom and think it made a difference.. when i get done fencing my yard i will do a more indepth mod and see how it works,,,the seat was very tightly sealed with no where for the hot exhaust to exit....definatly poor design

Guys to open the back, one, there are 2 elastic bands on the skirt going under the seat....then two there is a plastic channel that goes across the bottom horizontally starting at either edge you can get it to unhook...then three the zippers are more apparant and mine were stiff enough to find that some needlenose pliers helped ...they unzip almost to the top and will reveal the contents of the back...
