Default Considering Upgrading or Nah?

Hi guys/gals

So I pretty much gave up on my upgrades, still have a ton of parts laying around, I really just don't have enough time to get this stuff done even though I've already done a ton.

I'd like to hear some of your thoughts on upgrading?

Currently have a 15 XLT (highly upgraded).

When I first saw the new 18s I thought they looked kinda ugly but honestly the design is starting to grow on me a bit, some configurations actually look pretty good in my opinion.

HOWEVER.... I don't know if a grill/headlight redesign is worth the upgrade to a mid-refresh model of the same generation. Maybe I should wait until 2020/2021 for the next gen?

For those of us on '15 XLTs, what exactly do we get from upgrading to an '18 model?
new front design
10 speed transmission
upgraded suspension
optional new choice of engine!

That's about it right? I mean other than the new face it's essentially the same truck from the interior?

One thing is for sure, no matter what I get I'll make sure to get a fully loaded Plat or Limited this time! Even though I really do thank and appreciate all the help from this community on beefing up the XLT lineup for those of us whom miscalculated how awesome the higher trims are or for those of us that liked tinkering with our trucks in our spare time but finally came to the realization that upgrades are a never ending fight! lol

So essentially these are my options.
  1. Buy a new 2018 Plat/Limited
  2. Wait for next generation F150
  3. Buy used 2016/2017 Plat/Limited
  4. Keep the 'ol 2.7 until it breaks then switch to Chevy! haha j/k

Btw I'm in no rush at all, just wanted to hear some other people's thoughts on your decision to upgrade, wait, or keep what you have.

You get direct and port injection on the 3.5 eco. That is a big deal. Not big enough to make me even consider trading, but I tend to keep my vehicles for a long time.

Personally I think no matter what year/trim you get you will have the upgrade bug. The way I look at it is if the truck you have does everything you want have fun upgrading it. But it sounds like you really want the premium (plat or limited) which has brushed aluminum, leather, and such which will add up quick. If those are things you really want then upgrade otherwise I would make your own personalized rig. Just my .02

I think I would be inclined to wait for 2020 or 2021. Not enough changes in the 18 to make enough of a difference in my book. Enjoy what you have for awhile and see what ford has up its truck sleeves.

You have another option... Buy a 2018 now then trade it in again when the next generation comes out.

That new truck smell doesn't last long. Having the latest and greatest doesn't last long either. I choose to drive my vehicles until I NEED another one, not because I want one. 16 years ago we bought a new Explorer. My son just turned 16 years old and I gave it to him or I'd still be driving it. I plan to drive my now 5 month old truck until it gives me a reason to do otherwise. (That damn Explorer is/was tough to stay on top of.)

I keep my vehicles for 6 years, so I wouldn't even consider switching vehicles earlier unless it was a lemon.

I just get what I really want/need and I'm happy. If you get what you want/need, then you should like what you have for quite a while.

It's endless to chase the updates they do every year or two. Maybe I'm easier to please.

In short, I'd wait for a model generation change. The next one will be awesome enough to make you want it more than whatever you are driving at the time.

I'd wait a couple of years for them to work the bugs out of that 10 speed transmission and new engines (2.7EB has so many changes Ford calls it a 2nd generation). I would probably just wait for 2019 or 2020. If you're going to trade it in a couple of years go for it.
