Considering a new truck
#22
Now that I'm retired I don't drive much except to take the kids to school, so with that stated I have the 5.0 and with the sport mode on most of the time it makes the short trips to school fun and very peppy. More than anything I enjoy the 385 HP from the 5.0 when I need to pull out it doesn't hesitate to haul *** true to when needing to get around someone. My buddy has the eco and that is the one thing he states he misses is the push you back into your seat and haul *** when you need it feeling.

I'd stay away from a first year engine set-up (2.7L), wait till all the issues have been worked out with that. A V6 engine in a full size truck, no thanks. I don't care if you twin turbo it or not; still too much for a 6 cyl engine. The 5.0L engine has been around for more that 50 years...hard to beat the longevity of that. And if it so moves you, drop a blower in that V8 and watch the real magic begin.

First, love Toyota (my wife drives a 4runner)... but when it comes to trucks, Ford gets the win. No matter which engine you do.. 2.7, 3.5 or 5.0 - they're all great. I have the 2.7 because i don't tow much (a motorcycle trailer sometimes) etc... advantages on the ford over toyota:
1. ROOM - even if it's just two people, you will love the room - especially with a dog
2. Reliability - Ford in consumer reports has better reliability than toyota now with the 2015 trucks... they nailed it.. (mine has 10K miles on it - so far, zero issues - drives great).
3. Looks - i think the F150 is the best looking truck out there in any category
4. Price - you can get a LOT more truck for the same money you would spend on the toyota
5. Technology - Ford has done a lot with options, makes toyota outdated a bit in what they put in their trucks.
6. MPG - the FULL SIZE ford gets BETTER gas milage than the toyotas (especially the 2.7L).. I can get 25 on a road trip in mine which is incredible for such a big truck..
My my opinion - all it is... if you do get toyota - obviously a great truck too! (just avoid nissan - they're quality and reliability has really suffered last several years... resale on nissans also are horrible).

We are all ford f150 lovers here, but if I tell you what a buddy stated then thats what he stated.
I might have lefted out that both trucks was hauling landscaping blocks and lumber in the back and you can't get away from the numbers. The 5.0 has the largest payload capacity so with me pushing 385 HP vs his 325, yeah I'm going to have a little more push than his. And if you use your truck as a truck then the larger payload capacity is what most want. I'm not saying the other are bad engines, you'll find that argument on another thread. However I don't need a engine sound amplification device to make my 5.0 song like a V8 because it is a V8.
Don't get me wrong I also see the numbers for torque on the 3.5 EB which is at 420 so if your pulling a trailer which most are not you got me, but load your bed and trailer, I'll see you at the job site unloading when you get there. Lol
Hell man, I consider myself lucky just to be able to buy one of Fords new products even the Focus with today's mess we live in. So 2.7, 3.5 or the 5.0 I'll take anyone of them.
But I think I'll keep the 5.0

90% of the time... my 2.7L drives me to my desk job.. So sitting on the tollway in DFW - sips less gas then the other motors (or trucks for that matter)... once every few months i pull a motorcycle on a trailer (a buick sedan could tow ) - so i've got the right motor for what i use it for... outside of that, we load the bed with camping gear on weekends sometimes... if i were towing tons or really pushing the payload consistently - i'd get the 5.0..

I will state this if you are wanting to be considerate of the environment, save fuel and keep the price of fuel and the new truck low buy other than the 5.0. But if you don't give a damn about any of that and are thinking I'm about to drop 40 to 60 grand on a truck then get the biggest bad *** truck they make, and drive it like you stole it because life is short.
