Confused by Transmission Options
2015 F-150 XLT with 2.7 Eco.
A bit confused by the transmission options.
The shift stick has a button on the end I can toggle and see the "S" for Sport and "towing" light up on the dashboard.
If I hit the +/- toggle on the stick the gear numbers light up on the right side of the display screen.
I have "M" as one of the gears I can select.
Questions:
If I hit the +/- toggle to display the gear numbers am I engaging any shifting feature/function if I have not also selected "S" or "Tow" mode with the button on the end of the stick, or if I have not selected "M" when I put the truck into gear?

Just displaying the gear numbers does not select the gears. As you drive you will see the gears change.
Now if you hit the - button you now have told the truck not to use 6. If it WAS in 6 it would have downshifted to 5.
Each time you hit the - it goes down a gear. The truck will still shift up and down normally — but will not go past the highest number that you had selected by using the - button.

In drive: Buttons basically act as a 'limiter' and make your trans act like one with less than 6 gears (doesn't let the trans go past the highest gear you've got lit up).
In M(anual): truck does not shift until you tell it to, though I haven't used it enough to know if it auto-downshifts like most other vehicles do.

it will auto-downshift if you don't (in M that is)
