Chirp sound at idle - 355 miles 5.0L
#31
Here is a clip of my engine at idle. Sounds just like Sledneck64's and Jbscott's.
I went out to remove the serpentine belt tonight but decided against it at least for now since it was getting dark and I *ahem* wanted to watch the superbowl. Anyway, the sound seems to be coming from the passenger side valve cover area, not the front of the engine where the belts are.
My truck does NOT make this noise when it's stone cold. Once the engine starts coming up to temperature, the noise gradually starts up.

Strange part is mine only made the noise when cold and would go away when warm. My thoughts were that oil wasn't getting to a lifter or something like that. The shop foreman listened to it and wanted me to leave it that day. I should have some resolution this week and be able to tell you what was replaced and whether or not it worked. As previously posted, my loaner truck doesn't sound anything like any of ours that have been posted with similar issues.

My original problems were harsh shifting, clunking of the transmission.
They replaced my transmission valve body and it has been performing WAY better since. Have put another 500 miles on it since.
Another problem was the squeaking, so they replaced the High-Pressure Fuel Pump. However, this did not solve the problem. I have taken the serpentine belt off to see if this was the problem, which it wasn't. I bought a mechanic's stethoscope and surprisingly the noise isn't coming from the top valve cover area nor the high-pressure fuel pump. I hear the noise the loudest when I place the stethoscope on the bolt that holds the tensioner on the front of the motor for the accessory drive belt. I plan on taking it back to the dealer to discuss whether it is coming from the tensioner or whether or not it is inside of the motor. The noise is now present all the time, even faint when warm, but extremely noticeable when cold.
Does anybody have any updates?

Ah that's pretty frustrtating. As ****ty as it is it may be easier to find doing it consistently. No update from me, the truck is like a woman and won't make up it's mind when it wants to squeak...

mine chirps everyday. I did take a trip that was a few hours drive. At the end of it it was quieter (could still hear it). Let truck sit for 20 minutes and when I fired it back up it was back. I’m really at a loss.

Chirping Sound
I plan on dropping the accessory drive belt today to see if it is the idler pulley or tensioner. I dropped the serpentine already and it wasn't from that side. I will update afterwards. When listening with a stethoscope the noise is definitely coming from the passenger side of the engine and I have narrowed it down to one of the two (idler or tensioner).

So, I dropped the serpentine and accessory belts (pain in the neck because you actually have to remove the tensioners). The chirp seems to go away, but I wasn't able to run it for long without it making new noises due to having no compressor or charging system. My plan is to take it back to the dealership with my suspicions of it being the idler or accessory tensioner. We'll see what they have to say and I will update accordingly.
