Yep that is the identical noise. Okay well at least they are trying to figure it out, and no I have no update on mine. The only place I hear a noise with a stethoscope is on the cat. That would be much appreciated if you could let me know what they say! I'm to the point of considering trading it, it's driving me nuts.

I just posted a new thread on this - didn't find this one in the search, I guess because I searched for "squeak" instead of "chirp". But my truck makes the exact same noise. 2018 5.0.

Did anyone else notice that the frequency of the noise is about 4hz at idle, or about 1/2 crankshaft speed? That tells me the noise is valve train-related.

So, I took mine in two weeks ago and had a voicemail yesterday that they had ordered parts for my issue (not sure what parts yet until I speak with them). I am currently driving a loaner 2018 F-150 5.0L 10-speed, which is nice because I have been able to compare the drivability (took in for transmission issues as well as the chirping engine) and perform a sound comparison of the engines. Below are the two links of the videos and it is remarkable at the difference in sounds (both have under 2,000 miles on them).

My truck:

Loaner truck:

These videos were taken with the same camera phone shortly after starting each truck (cold) and letting each one come down from high idle. It's remarkable that these are the same engines!

I’ve heard it’s the fuel pump.

Did you listen to the two videos I posted ^^^^ ? What is your take if so? It sounds like two different issues to me, one is growling like a diesel and chirping, the other is like a sewing machine.

It sounds like a lot of the other clips out there. Definitely not a “normal” sound, but my dealership says “unless it’s more pronounced, we can’t do anything.” At least I have it documented so when it takes a crap, it’s on them.

Here is a clip of my engine at idle. Sounds just like Sledneck64's and Jbscott's.

I went out to remove the serpentine belt tonight but decided against it at least for now since it was getting dark and I *ahem* wanted to watch the superbowl. Anyway, the sound seems to be coming from the passenger side valve cover area, not the front of the engine where the belts are.

My truck does NOT make this noise when it's stone cold. Once the engine starts coming up to temperature, the noise gradually starts up.

Mine makes the same noise. I can accept the injector noise but IMO it makes too many other noises to be normal. I'll try and isolate when it makes the noise. I have a 2018 STX with the 5.0, 4wd. Mine is going in next week to have the bumper/hood/ and fenders resprayed due to rock chips, so I'm having it looked at then. It's been fairly consistent.

I hope it's fixed as I love this truck,It's comfortable, has plenty of power, goes well in the snow.

Default 2018 chirping like a song bird and dealer said they can’t find it

[QUOTE=Ozzstar;4727343]I have 355 miles on my new '16 5.0L 4x4 regular cab long bed. I have been hearing a slight chirp/squeak at idle. I have worked on cars for over 25 years and this one is new to me. I could hear the noise mostly when I would stand by the passenger side door. If i walk to the front of the truck the noise is barely noticeable. This noise sounds exactly like when a serpentine belt is making noise (chirp). I pop the hood and the front of the engine sounds 'normal', belts and pulleys. I get under the truck to diagnose the issue and focus in on the bell housing area of the transmission where i hear the noise pretty well, the sound is in that area......so i keep listening and sure enough without burning the **** out of my ear, i get real close to the PASSENGER side catalytic converter, i can hear the abnormal noise inside the cat. Of course its not a loose heat shield, it's internal. Usually the cat will rattle but this guy is high pitched. Drivers side sounds fine. Damn... ain't that a bitch. Glad I got 60K more miles of warranty left.

Thoughts on the subject including any one else experience this issue on a '15 or '16 model.?

Ozz[/QUOTE

2018 Ford F-150 XLT 5.0 v8 and this thing chirps like song birds on a spring day. Dealer put new idler arms on the belt thinking they got it and yet here’s what it sounds like. It’s got 5700 on it and seems to do it on cold starts at idle much louder when engine warms it quiets down.

Strange part is mine only made the noise when cold and would go away when warm. My thoughts were that oil wasn't getting to a lifter or something like that. The shop foreman listened to it and wanted me to leave it that day. I should have some resolution this week and be able to tell you what was replaced and whether or not it worked. As previously posted, my loaner truck doesn't sound anything like any of ours that have been posted with similar issues.
