It is because the cameras (well, most anyhow) automatically reverse the image for their "normal" install, on the rear of the vehicle. Think of it this way..... looking through your mirror, an object you see on the right side, is only on the right side of the mirror. It is on the left if you turn your head to look directly at it.

If you mount the camera on the front of the vehicle, this no longer happens, and yet the camera is still going to reverse the image. Some of there expensive units will have an option to select normal image.

Well I'll be.........Never gave that a thought. With the truck I have a short stripe of black paint on the approach to the garage, After I hit the "thing" hanging from the ceiling then go into reverse, I can line up that black line with one of the lines on the screen. Sure enough it is behind me and if I turn around it would be on the right. So a regular camera would have it wrong since it would not reverse the image. With this set up I can close the garage door and have 3/4" gap from bumper to door insulation. Need the room in the front.
That is why I like the 360 view from my van when parking. Shows right where I am in the space.
Great idea you have there. Lots less than the cost of the one I almost have installed. Had to quit until back gets fixed.

I emailed the folks who have it listed for $39.99 and asked if they had a set with the monitor and front camera. I was asked to provide the order # and my mailing address and they will send me the front one for no charge. So I did all that. I'll let you know how it goes once I get them.

I paid $38 on Amazon (must have been on sale, since now it`s $39.99). It works great & is not a permanent part of the truck. It works with a lighted switch that plugs into a 12v outlet. The only problem with mine is that the monitor view is reversed right to left.
There is a small button on the large part of the black cable, if you press it for a few seconds a menu will show on the monitor, that you can reverse the image, make a few adjustments. Not sure if that's only for the Front camera I got sent or if the rear camera has it also.

Installed the front camera and the wires through the grommet and into the interior. Will need to finish running the cables tomorrow. Tried it out and everything on the Truck works and the Front camera shows up very clear. Might do a video after I wrap everything up.

My son and I took about two hours working on the front camera install and the wiring to the inside. So it can be done...

If you email them from the Amazon page, and ask about getting the front camera, they will respond that you send the order # and your name and mailing address and they will send you the front camera for no charge.

Sorry, I forgot about updating. I have used this a bunch over the past 2 years. It's still working as good as ever. Never got around to mounting the video screen. I just pull it out of the cubby hole beside the usb ports.

Here's what I did, I have a 6" lift with 37" tires, so I mount these lower. The best thing about them is when it's a continues beep, I'm 12" away from what ever is in front of the truck. Yes I did measure it to make sure, I also put them on a switch, they peep every so often.
