I'd like to find all the threads that I read when I had battery problems with my new truck and hope that all the shade tree mechanics that offered advice to just use any charger and it will be fine read this. If this pdf is gospel then we got some really bad advice in prior threads. I had threatened to use my 40-year-old charger on mine but since it completely died before I did it I had to boost it and went to the dealer and got the battery replaced. If I missed something, was there anything about boosting an AGM in this pdf?

I've saved this document. I think it's worth reposting every few months.

AGMs are nice. I use them on boats. But damn they are expensive.

As for the charger I have both the manual charger (must set "conventional" or "maintenance-free" type battery) and auto charger (Battery Tender). Battery Tender charges better IMO. The longest I ever got out of a Flood battery was 5yrs. The oldest AGM I have is dated 2010 and it's still going strong (Optima).

I had a pair of Optima's in my old F350 that were drained from sitting. Thought for sure they were goners, but after a week of boosting them, and then a slow charge they recovered. Since then I bought 2 new chargers that have separate AGM and Gel settings. What a difference they make for recovering AGM batteries. I have one (AGM) in my RC trailer that got discharged from the solar panel lead coming loose, and the new charger was able to bring it fully back, thought for sure it was done for, but has been perfect ever since.

Whats that saying, the right tool for the job?

From the PDF:
"If the vehicle battery is replaced, it is very important to perform the BMS Reset using a diagnostic scan tool.
If the battery monitoring system reset is not carried out, it holds the old battery parameters and time in service counter in memory and it tells the system the battery is in an aged state and may limit the Electrical Energy Management system functions"

So if I need a new battery and want to get it someplace other than the dealer, how do I do this battery monitoring system reset? I didn't find it in the Owner's manual.

My question is do dealers and all the techs know this.

I am sure this can be done with FORScan... and can be done yourself.

Relatively new to FORScan. I've used it to program a few easy things. Can you give me a hint how to do this since I don't think it would be a value change?
