Default Change Your own Air Filters

After a fiasco involving a lying dealer, I pulled my own air filters and changed them out whether they neeeded them or not. Compared to what the fraudsters wanted, I saved over $100.

1) Engine Air Filters, if you feel comfortable changing your own wiper fluid, you can easily change your own air filter. The hardest part is getting the box the filter comes in open.

2) Cabin Air Filters: definitely a step up in degree of difficulty. It took me about 1 hour to pull it off with the help of YouTube videos. The hardest part was getting everything back on. But, having done it once, I figure it is about a 5-10 minute job. Having moved to a high pollen area, I’ll change it out every 6 months at a cost of $15.

Good luck.

You *saved* over $100? How much did the stealership (which is a well-earned term in this case) want to hit you for a freaking air filter?

I get mine off Amazon and swap them in the driveway.

I use OEM for the engine and aftermarket activated charcoal for the cabin filter. I drive in the Portland traffic a lot and the activated charcoal helps.

The total cost for getting both filters changed was going to be north of $150 at the new dealership. . What set me off the most, they claimed that they inspected the filter and determined it to be dirty. I knew that at least one of the filters had been changed by my (old) dealer in CT

When I got home, I found a receipt that proved my air filter was only 1 month old. When I put the new filter in, I kept the “old” filter to establish that it was clean.

For car parts like air filters and wiper blades, I too love shopping at Amazon. Motorcraft Parts are much cheaper and non-OEM offer even more savings,

Lawn guy wants $125 to mow my grass. I can do it myself in about an hour. Damn thief. Same philosophy didn't work out so well with my barber though.

Yep but it takes awhile. You squirt it all over your windshield when needed and then fill it up and repeat.
Sorry I couldn't help myself!

Just set up a schedule where you change all your fluids at once. I find it convenient to change the wiper fluid and blinker fluid at the same time, since I'll have the hood up. I'm getting ready right now to change out the air in my tires from the dense winter air to the summer air....it really helps the MPGs and offers a softer ride.
