Default CB Radio Antenna for a 2015/2016

It took me a couple of tries to get the right mount and parts to put an antenna on my 2016 F150 Lariat. So I thought I'd share my success with others. Sorry if this is a duplicate, but I didn't see any other posts for this generation F150.

The key is the NCG fender mount (FO3ANTNCG). It mates to a Pulse Larsen NMO (New Motorola) antenna connector (NMO-KUDFME). I also needed a FME to UHF PL-259 and NMO to 3/8-24 Adapter to plug into the antenna jack of my CB. Lastly, I chose a Francis 4.5 antenna (300CB25B).

After I ride around with it for a while, I'll update this thread with my impressions and performance. Hope this helps.

One other thing, I routed the cable through the firewall easily. There's a rubber grommet with other wires in front of the brake pedal that's readily visible under the hood on the firewall. It took a little cutting, but couldn't have been easier.

I'm planning to mount the CB itself in the very large center armrest storage bin.

When attaching a mounting bracket like that, any issues with proper grounding to the aluminum body? Any concerns about galvanic corrosion between the SS mount and aluminum?

You're a step ahead of me! The mount came with this insert that addresses the corrosion (attached). I did what it told me to.

Interesting. Seems like there would still be a metal to metal path based on the diagram in the bulletin, so I guess you'd be grounded. Curios to see how it works out for you. I'm considering adding a ham radio to my truck and would have a similar concern about grounding the antenna.

I clicked the link to the Ford Bulletin.pdf and twice downloaded a 2-page blank document. (Maybe it's a "white paper"? LOL

Would love to hear about your experiences these last three months. I just bought an F-150 XLT and expect to deal with the same issues for antenna mounting.

I would also like to know what you did originally (the first "couple of tries" you say) and why it did not work out? I'd like to avoid making those mistakes too

Thanks,
Dave

How are things working out? Interested in essentially "copying" your setup.

For what it's worth, I use this mount on my HAM radio, and it's been great.

FWIW, I have 2 antennas wired in a dual configuration mounted to my backrack. Perfect SWR and absolutely no grounding issues. I've got 2 footers so I can still fit into some garages when I'm in the city (which is quite a bit). I'm looking for a way to do a K40 or something like that, but running into some placement, height issues (I have a few 9' bridge underpasses I need to go through on my way to work).

Our DEP police use F150s here with lowband antennas mounted on a ball off the side of the bed with a full 102" whip that they pull down and clip in the city (state police does this too). Might consider that, but not sure I want to make those permanent holes in the outside of the truck...
