Cannot Find Oil Filter!
#21
thank you guys, the change went well! I put 5k miles on it early due to a few family road trips so wanted to get a change early, plan to drive this thing till it dies!
I appreciate this forum a lot, been a great source of information whilest buying and learning my first truck!
there's always going to be negative people/*******s in life (see some posts above), but just ignore 'em - most of us here are just trying to help/get help, and be productive/constructive.

My jaguar has the same arrangement but it is so you can do an oil change in minutes all from the top of the engine. Vacuum the oil out the top and filter is right there designed so it drains when the engine is off. I like the arrangement.
And yes very sad about forum bullies. Wish mods would take more of an interest in penalizing them.

After changing oil filters on the 5.0, 3.5, and 2.7, the 2.7 is the simplest. No mess since the oil will drain down once you crack the housing filter open and at a convenient location. The only PITA (sometimes) is the small o ring. Better have a pick ready.
5.0 and 3.5 still uses the spin on filters which are great (no o rings to fight) but the location is not as great as the 2.7.

First time I changed my oil I thought it was pretty easy except for that O ring. Definitely less mess than the spin on. The worst was my 1965 Impala supersport convertible. It had the old metal canister type and there was no way to do a clean change with that thing. Big bolt to loosen in the bottom middle and as soon as it got loose the oil started draining out around that long a** bolt. Found a spin on conversion kit before I changed it again. What was GM thinking?

the guy had a simple question, a simple here is where it is. You can bet some acting so superior in knowledge have asked
something at times. Yes he could have gone online,,, but just ask here. My truck did not come with the manual,
never asked for it, can google what need, if need too. Guys i know do not live under the hood anymore, they drive to work,
outings, and back home park it. Its just transportation. Don't throw gadget money at a deprecating asset.

Next time you buy a tube of caulking, cut the plastic tip off a little large. Then trim that down to fit just over the stem for the oil filter. Roll the little o-ring right down the cap onto the stem.
