2017 F150 Slip Yoke Greasing Questions
So I was having some clunking in my drive train when accelerating after a stop and also when accelerating after coasting. Figured I would drop the drive shaft and grease the slip yoke since it seemed easy enough. When I slathered the Ford PTFE grease into the slip yoke and installed it into the transfer case I noticed there was a hydraulic effect and wouldn't compress all the way. I removed some grease from the yoke so that the slip yoke could go far enough into the transfer case so that the old rusty portion of the slip yoke lined up with the seal sticking out of the transfer case. I'm assuming I did this correctly but wanted to get some feedback since I'm concerned that I didn't get enough grease in there. Should I have left enough grease so that it essentially hydrolocks the slip yoke?
Also, I torque the drive shaft bolts to 80 foot pounds since I had to use a wobble extension. Think that's ok? I read torque specs that said 76 foot pounds but figured I'd lose some of that torque when using the wobble extension.
I'm letting the Loctite cure over night so will test it out to see if it even made a difference. Hoping I didn't screw anything up and would have been better off leaving it alone. The slip yoke was pretty dry when I pulled the drive shaft.
