It's obvious that some have lived a sheltered life. And that's not necessarily a bad thing. Let me shed some knowledge here....so there is not an assumed "breakdown" of logic.......

Most penal institutions, whether they be jails, prisons, work camps, stockades, brigs or holding institutions have a hard and fast policy of not allowing any motor vehicle keys inside their Guard Line. This is a basic security step to prevent an escape. It also prevents one from aiding and abetting an escape by providing the keys to a vehicle. One must surrender their vehicle keys upon entrance. Common practice.

Some of us, because of our profession, have to frequent these institutions. Not having to deal with the key exchange makes work a little more pleasant. Thus another logical reason for a keypad.

Like I said above......Whatever......

Off topic, but I use the keypad every time I use the truck... Most of those times are to lock it by pressing the bottom 2 keys. I always leave my second set of keys in my truck (locked in a console vault), same situation in my wife's Taurus... Love the keypad, not so much on the Taurus, because it's not mechanical buttons, but hidden until you swipe down the B-Pillar.

No external keypad is a deal-breaker for me. Just my $0.02

I assumed your motor and they don't list parts for a 2017. The door key pad is cheap, but I'm not sure if you need a control module as well.

Wow. I assumed all Ford trucks came with a keypad. Heck, even my old Sport Trac had a keypad. I think keypads should be standard equipment on every vehicle. I use it all the time. Especially when I go to the gym. So handy to keep everything locked up inside of my truck. Also, since I don't have keyless entry on my XLT, it comes in handy when I need something from my truck but don't have the keys in my pocket.

If you really want them glossy consider a gloss vinyl wrap. Will be a lot more durable than the finish on the OEM plastic.
Good information. I had seen a few threads mentioning finish isn't very durable and I know my wife and her nails would somehow make it looking like a scratching post.

Spot on...thanks. I think I saw in the thread linked that I can "Dremel" out the opening on the cover I have. Should be wired and ready just need to use ForScan to activate or take it to a dealer I think. I need to go back over all the info before I pull the trigger.

I love the keypad and use it all the time. Used it about an hour ago when I went pick up the pizza. Left the truck running and locked and unlocked it with the keypad. A friend of mines with a GMC Sierra has to shut the truck off then remote start it to keep the A/C running to do the same thing. Me, I just hit the last 2 buttons on the keypad and keep going. When I was about 10 years old my neighbors bought a new 80 something Lincoln and I thought the keypad was the coolest thing. Fast forward a few decades and I still think it's pretty cool. And if you didn't know, if you have the remote tailgate release pressing the 5/6 button after entering in the code will lower the tailgate.

My Super Duty had the keypad and I used it all the time, but since my Lariat has handle sensors or whatever, I havent used it yet. But it is for sure handy if you need to leave the keys in it. Its just hard to purposely lock your keys inside for the first time, lol

If your really good with cutting tools and measurements it should work out. I am not the best so mine is a bit off. Overall it worked but for me if I did it again I would purchase the specific XL pillar with the keypad to give it that clean factory look. Only reason I cut mine was that I got the standalone keypad on Ebay for 26$ shipped. Overall I am very happy having added it. As for using forescan its easy and there are other changes you can make so I would not give any money to the dealership to make the changes.
