Default Cai opinions

I have read Plenty of reviews on here on different CAI. Some say there is a little more turbo sound and no performance GAINZ. I want more turbo sound without having to get BOVs. So I want to buy a CAI and not spend 500 for the AFE.

It looks like the Roush is a good option, but online says it's not legal in California. Has anyone bought the K&N or Injen with the aluminium tubing?

They do nothing except make you spend money on snake oil. If the manufacturer could achieve better fuel economy as well as performance, wouldn't they do it straight out of the factory??

Pull the turbo silencers out the stock intake pipes and buy a AEM dry filter for $40 and do the VTA Mod and save the cash for a tune or other mods.

Ecoboosts have what is called a speed density type sensor in the intake and those are actually are better than a MAF when installing a CAI because you can see small gains without a tune. The ECU can adjust to the difference in air flow and actually give you a little boost in HP. Most likely not as great of a gain as advertised by most CAI companies but you could see 5ish horsepower +/- a few HP. Most of all you can get a filter that you can clean and never have to replace, a little better throttle response and more turbo noise. Another thing I would like to say is that all the horror stories about K&N CAI's are blown way out of proportion. Most of the stories are the result of improper maintenance of the filter (poor cleaning and over oiling) In the past I have run K&N filters in my vehicles and they have worked flawlessly. They kept the intake tubes spotless and worked great in all driving conditions.

Of course to get real noticeable gains you should always get a tuner. I am shying away from one because I have an unlimited powertrain warranty from my dealer and I don't want to run the risk of losing that if something were to happen after tuning my truck (not that I expect it to) I simply have an AEM CAI for my truck because I happen to like the sound of the turbos and really think it looks good under the truck. I like the AEM dry flow filters and have had really good luck with those in recent years. I do not notice a power difference but throttle response is better so that in itself makes the truck seem faster.

I can't speak for the 5.0L version but my 2015 EcoBoost comes from the factory with a CAI. I guess you would be wasting your money buying different one.
