Cabin Air Filter
If you look on the outside of the glovebox on the side with the damper, you will see a hole just below the end of the damper. That hole is connected to the hole now holding the end of the damper. Pull the damper towards that open hole, which is a little larger than the hole it is in now. The damper should pop down into that hole, then you can push the end of the damper through that hole to unlatch it. Don't use too much force or you can pull the hole damper assembly apart.
You need a trim tool to pry the trim piece out from above the glovebox. You can use a screwdriver, but that will most likely mar the trim piece.
If you think your year of truck is different, if you told us the model year and trim level it would help.

Yeah, I had no problem replacing my cabin air filter. It was much easier than my wife's previous 2017 Explorer, which I ended up breaking a piece to get it done. The F150 is probably the easiest I've ever done.
I have the trim tools and I still can’t get that wood grain piece off. Already made a small crack in it. There must be some magic to getting it off, because we have pried on it to the point of seemingly nearly breaking the piece and it doesn’t budge. Looks like it’s gonna be $100 and let the Ford dealer mess with it. Has anyone priced this trim piece out? Wondering what it would cost to go ahead and break it vs taking the truck in to the shop.

It is not easy to remove. You have to get the tool completely under the trim piece before you do any prying and DON'T TWIST IT! Thats how I broke mine. You need two tool, there is the pry bar and another one that looks like a square tongue depressor. You need to work the pry under using the tongue depressor in a sort of rocking motion. lift, wiggle, reposition, lift wiggle, under it gets all the way in, then pry and it will pop out.
I had the same issue and actually chipped off some small pieces of the wood trim. Luckily though, when i put the black rubber mat back on, it completely covered it up. The first change i purchased the filter off amazon and the dealer charged me $30 to install it. I will be doing that for the next time it needs ot be changed and consider it a "convenience" charge.
