Started to change the cabin air filter the other day but stopped because I thought I was going to break something! Even had the proper tools. Read some of the comments on here and went back at it and got it done. Thought for sure that I was going to ruin the wood grain piece. Got it back together and all is well!

2015 F-150 Platinum FX4, Blue Jeans, 4x4, 3.5L EB, Tow Package, 3.55 gears, 5.5’ Bed, LineX, Truxedo Aluminum Roll up Toneau Cover, Sunroof.

I bought my 2015 Platinum with 29,000 miles on it, now has 81,000 and as far as I know, this is the first changing of the cabin air filter.

However, with the Platinum, the rubber trim piece above the upper glovebox is different, and you have to pry out the wood trim, that is blocking the screws to remove the upper glovebox.

Never doing it before, it took me about 30 minutes.
I was wondering how you pried the wood looking piece off without cracking it. I started and have already chipped it. Thanks...

Anyone have a link to both air filters on Amazon? 2016 3.5l amazon brings up a bunch.

You need a stiff but flexible plastic blade and get it deep behind it to avoid chipping it. Been there, Done that. What's funny is after 34,000 miles I am still on my original air filter and already replaced the cabin filter, which was dirtier than the air filter!

My Platinum has similar trim however it is brittle with a polished finish. I started removing it as in the video and the trim piece began chipping, luckily just at the bottom where it is hidden by the rubber strip. Looked at some other instructions online (can't find them now). They used two trim tools, one flat and one with a 90. Go in the center/bottom with the flat one to make a gap and then slip in the 90 to pull the trim forward and out. I'll post an update when I get a chance to try it. Anyone else have any success with the brittle trim??

I have had no problem removing the trim piece, using the trim tools. No chipping.

Ford Motorcraft part numbers (from 2019 owner's manual, page 422)

Engine air filter: FA-1883 Motorcraft
Cabin air filter: FP-79 Motorcraft
(Shows the same for all F150 models and engines)

I partially chipped mine (just the black veneer), even with the correct trim tools. Easily covered by the rubber piece, however. Used a black Sharpie to paint the now wood-colored chip, and it's like nothing happened. Did this at less than 10K miles, and it was awfully dirty. Will probably replace the engine air filter at 20K, since it's quite dusty where I live. And the cabin one again, but not looking forward to having to remove that stupid piece again.
