Try that on the Platinum. The wood trim piece takes tender loving care to pop out, and a set of trim removal tools is a must.

Second time should be much faster, but that first time, felt like I was going to bust it up for sure.

I invested in a K&N one. Yeah the filter media isnt as dense but you treat it with a chemical that makes it electrically charged and it collects everything from dust and pollen to bacteria and mold. And it flows better and reusable/washable. Some complain of a rubber smell intially that goes away with use but mines not that bad. Filters outside odors too.

I tried the Fram baking soda filter and found it significantly cut down on the air flow. I think thats why Ford didint use a "carbon" filter. Theyre more restrictive. The Motorcraft only filters dust and pollen. They call it a "pollen" filter in the manual. Thats why I went K&N....more airflow than even the Motorcraft and does more.

But in my engine, a Motorcraft paper filter will stay. The Cabin Filter does use a different "recharge" kit than the engine filter...the inside filter is not oiled but instead treated with a "refresher".

The K&N does do more! It puts an oil film on your heater core, and AC evaporator!

And that is the reason I won't use them.

The cabin air filter is not at all oiled like the engine air filters. I wont use their engine air filter for that reason due to the MAF sensors and crap on new cars. I stick to paper OEM there.

But the cabin air filter, I heard good things and so far so good. The spray somehow refreshes the electrostatic properties of the filter which is how it catches all the airbourne contaminants. It flows better. And for the crew cab with a bigger cab and which diverts flow to the back, the more flow the better.

When I had an XLT it took about 5-8 minutes to change.

Now a Limited with that wood trim, took me twice the amount lol. That wood trim is kinda scary to remove. Lots of creaking and flexing. Used a wide trim tool.

Change mine every 15-20K

I just did mine on the weekend at about 25k miles, that will likely be about as long as I will go on it. Pretty dusty for sure, but I do drive 10% on my commute so it adds up.
