I went with one of the activated carbon versions to test out. Seems to work like the OEM one, but I have not really ran my heater or A/C for too long yet (but tested them to make sure it all worked).

I went with the K&N filter in mine also. As dusty as it is here in Vegas it gets dirty quick, probably doesn't help much that I go down a lot of dirt paths either.
But the $45 for the filter and another $12 for the cleaning kit was worth it since I clean it about 2-3 times a year.

I just installed this one as well, seems to work great and does a much better job filtering out odors than the OE filter due to the activated carbon.

I found it is easier to just remove the inset panel just above the glove box. Takes half the time need to replace!

When I saw mine, I replaced it immediately. The truck was 3 years old with 146552 miles on the clock when I brought it home!

Might I suggest another brand and vendor option?
The TYC 800198P is about US$6 from RockAuto.com and slightly less cost from CARiD.com.
I use this rather than the Ford/Wix filters and find the particulate filtration to be mo'betta during the months w/ heavy pollen.

Do ya think the OE cabin filter, which had a part number FL3H-1, is a carbonized filter?

the replacement FP-59, was all bright white.

Edit: More research shows that it may be, ...
There no way it could be that black after 40k miles, ...

I just ordered the Fram CF12150, which has both carbon and baking soda. Only the best for my lungs.

$17.35 from Amazon.
