I'd say 5 minutes is possible if have done it before and if you have all the right tools - i.e. trim panel removal tool, right size bit, etc.

 

It is stupid, but it was the same design on my 2010 Fusion. Actually come to think of it, I think that one was worse.

I also don't think its designed to make money for the dealerships because they HATE to do them. I was talking to a tech at my local dealership and they try to advise people not to because it takes too long for what they charge.

 

Does anyone know if they changed the part number, or the location of the cabin air filter for the 2018 F150's? Thanks!

 

I agree but also consider that probably 90% of people dont even know that a cabin filter exists

 

If you don't have the piece of trim, like in the higher packages, then you could change it in 5 min.

 

Yes. Mine is an XLT, I didn't need a trim removal tool. I only needed to use a 7mm socket. Everything else just snapped off.

For all F150 from 2018 through 2015.

I haven't taken my glove box door down to see if it looks any easier to access, however, I've seen the dash on other 16's, 17's, and the 18 doesn't look much different (from the outside), so I'm not holding my breath...

 

10mins max... just did it for the first time on my year old 2016 Platinum, using the directions in this thread. Glad I did, it was quite dirty after just 12 months of use.

1. Open glove box, remove damper, squeeze rubber stops and open box all the way.
2. Remove rubber shelf above glove box by pulling up and out.
3. Remove wood trim using two plastic trim removal tools, slipping up behind it and poping it off.
4. Remove upper glove box and swing it to side, leaving lamp connected. 2 screws using 7mm socket.
5. Open air filter housing, remove old.
6. Struggle to put new one in, make sure the sides are ones up and you clear the vent doors at the back of the housing.
7. Put it all back together.

 

I replaced mine yesterday and it took me 15 minutes. That time includes pulling my truck into the garage and finding the right socket. Also, I took my time taking the dash apart, glove box, etc. Make sure you put the filter in correctly, it should be flat against the bottom of the housing with the arrow pointing down (airflow).

 

I did mine over the weekend. Just for fun I started the fan and put my hand in the filter box to see which way the air was moving. It's definitely going UP! And if you look inside, the fan is below the filter with the open plenum above it. So should the arrow point up?

Also, looking closely at the filter, I'm not sure that I can see any differences between the front and back sides making me wonder if it even makes a difference?
