1. I don't see how this can be done without removing the upper glove box. I had no trouble removing the cover and pulling the old filter out with the upper box in place but when I was sliding the new filter into place from below it'd ride up over the horizontal rails in the edges of the duct box that keep the filter in place and there's no access at all to push it down to where it's supposed to be. Getting the cover back on with two finger tips and no eyes seems like it would be a real headache as well.
2. My filter was much cleaner than I expected at 25K miles. If it wasn't such a PITA to get to I would have put the old filter back in for another two years. The filters in my other vehicles are usually looking pretty ugly by then. I think that this is thanks to the climate control defaulting to recirc in hot weather and the moderate AC performance encouraging me to leave it there.
3. I was favorably surprised by how well everything was finished back there. No sharp edges on the plastic pieces, the cover felt much stronger than it had to be, there was plenty of slack in the wiring for the glove door sensor, etc. It almost made me forget how pissed off I was at Ford for making me take my phucking dash apart to change an air filter.
Similar topic, didn't want to start a new thread.
Is there any way to adjust the glove box tension when closed? The right side (nearest the top) has a slight gap from the small dash tray piece. There is a latch on the right side and my glove box has a little slop so that this latch engages too soon and doesn't pull the glove box completely closed. Does anyone know if you can adjust the slop so that the glove box is flush with the dash tray piece and is completely closed?
Also, when going over bumps, the glove box rattles due to it not being completely closed.
It definitely gets annoying after awhile. I added felt tape but it didn't help too much.
Changed out my cabin air filter tonight, at 27,300 miles (800 of which are mine). Old one was pretty nasty, as expected since the previous owner did a lot of gravel driving, pictures don't do its dirtiness justice.
Best part was, I got the Motorcraft filter (part #FP-79)for free (a 28 dollar value!) directly from my local dealer, using my ford membership rewards I signed up for for free when I got my tonneau cover from the dealer!
Took about a half hour, being careful not to break the snap points.
So I just bought my truck a week and a half ago with 36K on it. Assumed the dealer had changed the filter to get rid of the cigarette smell.
Noticed driving around Vegas in the 115 degree heat that my air is not blowing nearly as hard as it ought to be. Pulled the filter and that thing was DIRTY. Ran the ac for about 10 seconds without the filter and it blew much harder. New filter going in this evening when I get home.
It wasn't that hard to get to IMO. You just have to be careful pulling that upper glove box out.
