3. Not sure exactly what did it but lifted the left side out of the bottom latch. Then when I titled the door the other bottom side came off.
4. Removed filter by pulling it back while slightly giving some upward pressure on the pocket (but not a lot). Just enough to manipulate the filter out. **The filter did have to squeeze/bend a little but nothing that deformed it permanently.
5. Put filter back in. **a little squeeze/bend but nothing to deform. Very slight, just enough to fit between the pocket and filter opening area.
6. Tricky part.... put door back on. Had to get the bottom part on by feel and adding some slight pressure on the pocket (again, not much). Used a flat tip screwdriver to help get those bottom notches to clip properly. Took a minute or so of trying to get it to work. Could probably do it faster next time around.
7. Latched the end clips and put glove box back to normal.

I did not have to unclip anything else beside what is needed to drop the glove box and to unclip the filter door portion.
This is what I did, but I didn't take the filter out, as I was afraid I'd mess it up, but good to know it can shimmy through. Again, why they wouldn't make it an inch lower, we'll never know.

Default Cabin Air Filter Replacement Video

Hi everyone,

Was looking around and couldn't find instructions on how to replace the cabin air filter. Figured it out and made a video, hope someone finds this useful:

That video helped a lot. Much appreciated!

Yes, I've searched as well but your video covers everything.

Glad to help. I was a bit surprised to find very little online, and the manual is close to useless on this.

I'm a little surprised it's that difficult to get to. Other vehicles I've had with a cabin filter are easily accessed by just pulling the glove box. I like the upper glove box pocket, but it makes it more involved than just about every other vehicle I've done this one.

Great video! Yeah, I agree, why would they make it so involved to get to? Seems a bit crazy that you have to unclip that box each time. I can see those clips breaking after a few cycles.

Imagine if you had to drop the spare tire each time you refuelled the truck. That's how silly this seems to me.

I'm thinking a couple of rare earth magnets would hold that box in place nicely instead of those clips.

Yep, that's the most difficult access I've seen on a vehicle. I'm going to try doing it without removing that pocket. Now that you've given me such a clear picture (and I've read of others doing without pocket removal) and I understand how the filter cover is clipped on I'm more comfortable trying it.

I tried briefly, and I bet it could be done. I'd be concerned about breaking the clips off the filter cover though, and you'd have to bend the filter to get it back in there.

I didn't get any good photos of the plastic clips, but they appear to be the type that flex as they are removed and installed. As the truck ages and plastic becomes brittle this may be an issue, but I'm not convinced that it will be.

I've read a bunch of posts regarding the filter replacement, but this video really shows exactly what they're all talking about. Great video! Thank you!

Thanks for the video. I got my door off without taking anything off, but when I tried to put the door back on I broke off both clips on the bottom. Seems to fit tight with just the clips on the side attached.
