Is that a decent price or should I really try to work down a dealer on a used vehicle? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I'm in the NJ/Philly area and just got a Ford certified 2016 Supercrew XLT in the $34k range. It does have only 6k miles.

I priced a new 2017, $50k, and they quoted around $40k+tax etc. I just wasn't able to negotiate some of the discounts like mentioned on here, given I also was doing everything via email.

Couple nice things about the Ford Certified: Good finance rates for used, 1.9% for 36 months, etc. Of course they offered me 3.9% til I mentioned it. A 12 month bumper-bumper warranty is added onto the 3yr/36 if the vehicle is less than 36k miles, so I have 4/48 from the in-service date of 2/2017. Powertrain also goes from 5yr/60k to 7/100. I think I quoted those numbers correctly.

Also, I drove a 2017 3.5 and would prefer not to have the auto start stop feature so the 2016 actually worked out for me. But the 2017 would get you the 10 speed tranny(3.5 eco) . Good luck

I mean its just a guess... but on an XLT, the 0% is a terrible decision. It makes more sense on the Lariat+, where they only ever do like 3-4k in rebates, and even then its usually cheaper to just finance at 2% with the cashback.

I don't like the 0% loans because your payoff amount is so high, you will be 12-15k dollars upside down in that thing for 2 years. (on an XLT)

This is what 90% of us do.... including me.

If I was buying a platinum, and the math was similar, I'd just take the 0% but I'm not. Fun math I did....

My truck is 15 dollars a month cheaper at the price I paid, 72 months, 2.35% apr than it would have been at same price (dealer discount price before rebates), 3k dollars in rebates!!! (military 1k, private 1k, ford credit 1k), and 0% for 72 months.

I'm probably the most extreme example of this because I have the highest discounted model available.... but some people are buying same ones at 0% WITHOUT the military or private cash lol. FAIL.

If you find that all your local dealers aren't good, you may need to expand your search. But there's a bunch of dealers in the north east, don't be afraid to shop around.

Back to the used thing, I wouldn't necessarily give up on the used idea, but just make sure you aren't paying ~5% less than a new one...

I got around 10k off my truck, but I should add that quite a bit of that was rebates and incentives from Ford. I bought a truck that had been on the lot for nearly 10 months also so they wanted to move it.

My 2015 lariat 3.5 EB - fx4/Sport 502a was listed used for $40,000 with 25,000 miles on it and in like new condition ...got them down to 35k and could not be happier. Feel like I got a great deal for a lariat with basically everything I could have wanted. Absolutely LOVE this truck.

Yeah I'm not writing off used and/or new models. Unless Ford Rebates really crank up in December I feel like I'm going to have a hard time finding a new one that I really want in my price range.

So it's either Used: Cheaper, All Features I want, but has miles

or New: Zero Miles, expensive, probably won't get all the features in my price range

There is some good advice here. But what makes it difficult or even impossible to answer the OP's question is that the sticker price for a new XLT can be anywhere from the mid 30's to the upper 40's depending upon options and packages. Then come the rebates and incentives and discounts... it takes a fair bit of research to figure out what any used truck stickered for new. Telling the OP he should expect to buy a 1 year old XLT for 30k or less isn't giving him the full story. If you're going to compare prices, you have to know all of the options he wants. Even then, finding two identical trucks to compare is darned near impossible...

Just my $0.02.

Point of reference -Used 301A FX4 SCAB with console, 2016 with 6K miles purchased 12/16 for $29950 included Ford bedliner, steps, tonneau cover and weather techs.
When I compared I was 4K less than new in the same Spec less extras, after incentives.

I started out wanting a lo miles 2014 STX to hit a budget and ended up sniffing this one for a few thousand more. At his point I'm happy.
Overall I looked for 6-8 weeks via cars.com mail alerts and Craigslist. I was not in any rush.
