I don't post often but I'm often reading and learning.

I took the advice from another member, Scott91370. I bought a clear one from Wade Platinum Bug Shield by Westin from autoanything.com for $55. No tape, no drilling, no clips and attaches from the underside of the hood with four metal screws into existing holes with a plastic or rubber like washer.

It's been on for a 2-3 months now and has held up very well. I don't have time to hand wash my truck so it gets ran through the same car wash many times per month. So it held up under the jet dryers blowing off excess water.

The 5 mounting clips slide over the edge of the hood, which has insulators to prevent damage to the paint. The hood deflector mounts to the clips. The hood deflector also includes 4 rubber bumpers to prevent the top of the deflector from chaffing against the hood. Very easy to remove the hood deflector for paint maintenance or installation of a replacement hood deflector - just remove the 5 screws and leave the clips in place.

I agree the AVS hood deflector is a very good deflector, looks great and provides excellent protection, until it becomes time to remove or replace it. The 3M tape can in some cases remove paint from the hood.

Good thing I have no intentions on removing it then..lol If I have to remove it, with a little patience and rubbing alcohol the tape should come off fine and by the time I do or ever have to remove it the tape will be so old it should just fall off anyway..lol

It's the best looking lowest profile deflector out there though, IMO.

Little Ford logo on the AVS model looks nice tho. But the clip in model sounds appealing.

You probably don't have a bigger fan on this forum. Your posts are nothing but helpful and you probably have as much or more knowledge than anyone else that posts here.

Having said that the biggest piece of junk I've ever bought was that particular bug shield. On a 1-10, FOR ME it's a minus 5. I really believe that most others are far superior and considerably less expensive.

The OEM Gen 1 hood deflectors were a POS - I'll will agree. The Gen 2, with revised mounting hardware, are improved and from the 100 or so we've installed seem to be holding up fine.

In the end the user should look at each style of hood deflector and make a decision based on their personal preference.

Debating which is the best hood deflector is just like asking which floor mats are best. Everyone has their own opinion and preference.

That little Ford logo didn't last long. It disappeared within a few a months.

I don't know which Gen I have. But I have been very pleased with the OEM deflector. I installed one on my 2015 and when I recently traded, I ordered one before I took delivery and it was the first accessory I installed. I also installed the same type on my 2005 Excursion about a year ago and have had no problems. I considered the AVS type but did not want to use the double side tape to mount.
