Can a person buy a clear bra for the hood only and install it themselves?
I was thinking about trying black Plasti-dip spray on my black truck and it
f I didnt like it I would only be out the cost of a can of paint. Just scared to spray the stuff on cause I dont want to mess up my paint. I have seen a lot of videos of it being done but I am still nervous.
Went to install the Aeroskin II today. Seems to wide. I don't like the idea of it overhanging onto the front quarter panel. I'd have to trim the adhesive otherwise if would adhere to the quarter panel.
I'll return it and say the heck with bug shields. The wife's Rav 4 in the background (a lot lower to the ground than my truck) after 7 years probably has 3 small ships in the hood. Cure probably will do more damage than the disease....
What model number did you order? That does look a bit wide. Also, the lower edge should be right at the hood line on the headlamps. I post a pic of mine sometime.
Post another picture showing more of the bug guard also. Here is mine. Excuse the dirty truck.

2019 F150. PN 436096. All packaging and the sticker on the back of the shield indicate it's the correct part.
Yea, that was not the final fit. I started doing a dry fit with the blue painters tape. Once I saw it was too wide, I took it off. I never removed the adhesive or did the final install.
It all started with a ding in the hood at around 8,000 miles. And since I thought about some sort of deflector the day I bought it anyway, it was time to hide that ding.
I tried the Ford deflector first. Piece of cake to install. But it bowed slightly between the little bumpers that stuck to the hood and looked like hell, especially from inside the cab. Not to mention the occasional small stick or leaves would get trapped behind it. And the screws that held the deflector to the brackets required weekly tightening; I should have used thread locker, but the cons of this deflector far outweighed the pros. I took it off and threw it in my shop attic for reasons still unknown. I should have just cut it up and threw it in the recycle bin.
Currently I have the AVS Aeroskin on my truck. For the third time, I might add. I followed the instructions to the letter for the first attempt, cleaning the hood several times. I thought the unit could have used a little more tape, but gave AVS the benefit of the doubt. I should have listened to my gut feeling, as three days in it started to lift. I have a big old roll of trim/emblem tape, so I removed the original tape and put on new, and more of it. I cleaned the hood a few more times and tried again. Within a week it was trying to come loose on the ends, which I wrote off to old tape. I picked up a fresh roll of 7/8" trim tape and tried again, after cleaning the hood some more. I'm about three weeks in, and it's trying to come loose again in a couple of small spots but I keep pressing it down. Prior to the 3rd attempt, I contacted AVS and explained the situation in detail, providing my Amazon receipt. They actually sent me another unit to try, and were great to deal with. I did notice that the tape on the new one as supplied is thicker and wider than before, and I believe that the thickness of the tape may be key - there's a slight raised lip all around the outside edge of the deflector which I think is to help it fit close to the hood, but I think the original tape (as well as my other two attempts) was just slightly too thin to completely form a proper bond since this lip acts as a standoff to some degree. I also think that my original unit has some distortion inherent to it also, which compounds things. Once my original deflector gets more serious about coming off (and it will), it's going to get cut up and I'll try the one AVS sent. Maybe the fourth time will be the charm.
So, in closing, if Aeroskin #2 doesn't work out, I'm probably going to get the damned ding fixed and save any further aggravation, and cover the front edge of the hood with film like I should have to begin with when I bought the truck.
Today I cut my Weathertech bug deflector into 4 nice pieces and it's in the trash bin for Thursday pickup. I got fed up with the cheapo plastic pins not being long enough or strong enough to resist the curve tension of the deflector. I wrote a letter to Weathertech and so far, no response. I guess I'm going to try the Aeroskin II - - I saw it on Amazon for 77 bucks. If that doesn't work, then I give up.

Fyi. I ordered the aeroskin ii for my 2019 f150. PN 436096 from Amazon, so it is the correct part. I did not like the fit. I returned it. Maybe a bad manufacturing batch. Don't know...
On my 2013, I had maybe a few little knicks. I'm going with nothing..
