Default Break In Through Driver Door Lock

At least according to SAPD, Ford trucks are the easiest to break into. Just got finished with police reports, dusting for prints etc...

Apparently the thieves only needed to pry up the driver's-side door handle and then they just twisted and broke the lock. Dealer installed alarm never triggered or no one heard it. They got into the "locked" center console and stole about $700 worth of electronics (sure, could have been worse), plus I need to "fix" a door lock that seems to be useless in the first place for who knows how much $.

Any suggestions on how to work with Ford/dealer on fixing/hardening and/or OEM solutions for 2016 F150 SCREW? I spent $1,000s on add-ons including security and now I need to spend more.

FORD F150's are the #3 most stolen car in the US last year (published every August. Total of 29,396. Honda Accords and Civics are #1 (52,544) and #2 (49,430). What they don't tell you, is that most stolen models in 2016 were the 2004, 2005 and 2006 F150.

Locks are for the honest- nothing will keep anyone out of your car.

Sucks it happened- but I doubt there will be much the dealer can do to put it back to OEM.

Those types of numbers are totally misleading though. #1 selling vehicle may have a low rate of theft, but multiply that times the number of trucks and it is top three.

Never have seen theft rate per thousand vehicles sold, or on the road.

Tesla could have 50 times the theft rate, but so few on the road.

dj69 - Sorry that happened but you might want to get used to it. Ford trucks are easy to break into, always have been. There are ways to fix the door handle so they can't get in that way but they will just break the glass. That is a much more expensive repair and one you will have to do. Usually the broken door look can be left that way and still function.

The fact is if they are getting in your console, they are more than likely looking for guns. You live in Texas, people have guns, thieves like stealing guns. My las t 3 Ford trucks have been broken into 11 times over a 10 year period. That is both in SA and Houston. The last several times, they have got in through the key hole, opened the console, gone through stuff with no real value and left.

IMO - the best practice is to keep it looked to keep honest people out, don't have anything in plain site, don't make it too hard together to places they would normally look and most importantly, DON'T KEEP ANYTHING WORTH ANY VALUE IN YOUR TRUCK.

Oh, I had the Hollywood Park cops, in SA, dust my truck once. What a mess. I won't ever do that again!

Thanks for the responses everyone. I guess a console vault or gun locker might at least be a way to do something with valuables (I'll look for posts on those).

One item that was stolen was my radar detector, and since that kinda needs to be with the vehicle... it was out of site but I guess they were watching. A glass break might have at least been more conspicuous since I was parked right in front of the entrance at a bar.

Another suggestion I was given was to replace the handle with a regular pull handle without a key lock or to reinforce all the handles but not decided on glass break vs easy/quiet in.

SAPD sucks they would rather give speeding tickets instead of stoping car break in.
If you have keyless entry do not hook up the key rod/ wire so if they break the lock they can turn all they want and it is not doing anything. If I catch them breaking into my truck you don’t have to worry about them breaking into your truck.I also had SWPS install a 100 decibel Whelen police siren going off instead of truck horn.Im guessing it happened of 410 near Airport

This sucks that this happened to you!

Happened at The Well. They have security starting at 9 but I had been there since 5. Half my truck was on their surveillance footage...the wrong half.

I'll be going into the door this weekend and taking off that rod, for sure. They somehow didn't totally mess up the handle plate, so things don't look too bad. These pics are from before I pushed everything back in:

How it looked when I first saw it (although the door was actually closed)

The tumbler is broken but the door wouldn't lock until I turned it 90 degrees.

Hardening... really... what a dumb *** question... maybe if you buy the bat mobile and can cover your windows with steel when you park... your truck has 4 glass windows, a glass windshield and a large rear glass window.. and only if you don't have 2 panes of glass for a roof as well. Access to your truck is only a rock, metal object or heavy fist away.
