1. You guys are pretty intense on creeping some random dude on the internet but i get it, originally looked pretty shady.
2. Yes i tried to delete the downpipe post i made a while back because i didn't want to scare people off, i took the downpipes off a week after i got them which ill get to.
3. Yes it was tuned at one point but was not at the time of failure. I tried 3 different tuners, but the truck didn't run right ever tuned, and i still lost my remote start because the downpipes threw a check engine light. Finally decided i didn't want the headache and really wanted my remote start back so downpipes came off and so did tune.
4. Mods at time of failure: drop in air filter, mbrp cat back, full race catch can, and a levels intercooler.
5. Told my servicing dealer in North Carolina exactly what i told you here, and had the above listed mods on when it was towed in and i am footing the bill on a new motor, but they gave me a huge discount on the labor and ill have a better warranty after which both are a show of great ford customer service on the dealer end.
6. Let this be a lesson to those on the fence, i can't say for sure tuning caused premature damage ect because i did everything possible to maintain my truck with top quality fluids and services, but it did not fail while tuned so take that for what it is.
7. Not blaming any tuner, everyone blamming this or that tuner but reality is it was constantly changing between tunes and even running 93 octane in 91 tunes for added security. Moral is modding is never safe, even if you fully understand how things work, sometimes **** just happens.
8. Yes the bill sucks, but in a sense i think i got a really fair deal and in the long run will probably save me a lot of money not modding anything again.
To all the concerned people in here, social justice was served so you can go back to your regularly scheduled leveling kit discussions. Thank you.
Hey man sorry this happened - its not fun but as they say (and seems like you know), it is what it is.

however, your post will help a LOT of people who believe that:
1..a tune by a reputable tuner will nevet result with an owner out of pocket gor a new (costly) engine.
2. Ford must prove the tune was the cause of failure.

again - your providing this information to others is appreciated and you will help a lot of people make informed decisions.

How do we know you’re not just saying this tho..

You could be getting the engine replaced under warranty right now but just telling us a different story so you can return to the forums.

Unfortunately, everything in life isn’t as black and white as your post implies. Take for example the TSB on the 2.7 engine for oil consumption / engine failure – Would your moral compass indicate that if someone is running a tune and experiences this issue that they should be denied warranty for it even though the tune had nothing to do with the manufacturing defect? I’m not implying that the burden of proof has to be on Ford to “prove” anything but I also don’t think it’s as clear cut as you indicate in every situation.

I guess i could do that but why would i? If i cared that much about what a truck forum thought of my life i would just leave. I posted this so others can hopefully learn from me. I know others have had theirs covered so it goes both ways but i think it's a good reality check. I for one knew it was "risky" running a lot more power, but figured that maybe meant 125k miles vs 150 or 175k and i don't put a lot of miles on my truck at all with my work schedule. So at 20k miles i would have never guessed i could lose a motor. That was my intention. If i get blacklisted here i promise it won't be a life changing event, but thanks for being a dbag anyways

Tuned, untuned, warranty covered, or not. Either way it sucks. I put a super charger on my 2013 Corvette at roughly 18 months and 11,000 miles. I knew the warranty would be toast but lucky for me never had any issues.
You trust a tuner to sell a decent product. No one ever mods a motor thinking it’s going to hand grenade.

No one is blacklisting you. S**t happens. I think what rubbed a lot of people the wrong way was you deleting posts about your mods hinting at you trying to conceal them to get Ford to warraty your truck. You seem to be in pretty good spirits about it and accepting responsibility so kudos to you.

So did they even determine a mod caused the failure? Or did they just outright deny warranty coverage at the mere mention of certain “mods”?
