I'm sure there is at least one thread about this but I can't find it. I tried the search bar and the site:f150forum way. Can't find it. Sorry.


The guy at Discount Tire told me I'd probably need new tires after another 5,000 miles, so I'm trying to educate myself ahead of time.


A few questions:


1. What is the largest size tire (width and height) that I can put on my truck without a lift/level and without changing my current stock wheels (18 x 7.5)?


2. Does going with a bigger tire automatically mean less MPG and/or lower ride quality/more road noise?


3. If you have a 2015 XLT Supercrew with no lift and 18" wheels, can you post a picture of your truck with what tires you have?

I would like to know this as well. One thing I am concerned about is putting a big load in truck with bigger than recommended tire size..

34" is the biggest you can go without serious rubbing.

32" if your rims are 10" wide.


If the new tires weigh more then yes, you can expect slightly less MPG, but not a significant loss. I have no noticeable road noise from my aggressive AT tires. The ride is a little more bumpy due to higher tire pressure than I had in my stock tires, I think.

I have 33" with a 10" wide rim and even with a 2.25" level in the front it still rubs a little at full turn. Damn crash bars

The problem is almost any tire you can find in an 18" bigger than 32" is going to be an E rated tire or more, this means it will almost certainly be a rougher ride and because it's heavier(and larger in general) will reduce fuel economy/acceleration.

If you find some decently priced tires that work and aren't E Rated or higher, please let me know.

Fyi Nitto terra grappler g2 has a decent selection of larger tires that aren't "LT" or E rated. Mine are 305/55/20 and are XL rated. A little heavier than my stock Hancooks were but no where near the weight of a 10 ply

They don't have a 33 or 34 in XL on an 18" rim, those are all LT. The OP is asking about 18" rims, not 20s. I regret getting 18" rims, I think I'll swap them for 17s in the future.

2016 XLT SCREW
Put on 275/70/18 KO2's for better traction. No leveling kit or lift and plenty of room left.
MPG has gone down slightly and there is a little bit of road noise but doesn't bother me. The stock Fortitudes were pretty bad in snow.

Looks good, but the mpg loss is what is stopping me from pulling the trigger

I went with the 275 60 20 KO2's which are a 33" tire and same width as stock. I had them added before I put the 2" front and back AS lift on and had not issues. I also have not noticed much of any MPG change at all.
