Default Better mpg using instant mpg graph

I've been using (watching) my instant mpg reading and trying to get better fuel mileage, I've also noticed it has caused me to change the way I drive. I notice myself being much easier on the "go" pedal and letting the truck coast more when possible. I am curious if anyone else does this or has tried it and if you've experienced better mileage has I have (1-2 mpg better). Truck is a 2016 4x4 5.0 3:55 gears.

I do the same - although even with monitoring my driving habits, I'm having a hard time breaking the 17mpg mark. It only has a 1,000 miles on it though so I'm hoping it will get better when closer to the 10k mark.

I got in the habit from my previous Subaru which had a similar indicator on the screen but it was horizontal and present at the very top no matter what the current screen was displaying. Kind of miss that feature but glad it's still included on the ford somewhere.

I tend to use this screen and the graph version most frequently while driving.

It's basically a vacuum gauge. Stay in the vacuum for good mpg. This is also why boost gauges are great for turbo owners, stay out of the boost and you get great mileage.

Yes I watch this as I drive. 99% of the time it's what I have selected on my screen. Anything else is just checking trip mileage or tire pressures, and then go back to that screen again.

I like to see how different things affect the mileage. For instance, I found recently when on a road doing 60km/h (40-ish mph) my RPM's are at about 1400 and the tranny stays in 5th gear. If I put the transmission in Manual and bump up the gear to 6th, my RPM's are at ~1050 and the mileage is better. Granted, a small slope uphill causes worse MPG in 6th than 5th, but on flat road, 6th is much better.

Yep, I got it on that display also, but one day I said to myself, screw it, and enjoyed the sport mode lol. I've been driving in that mode most of the miles now.

I do use it to gauge the relative mileage going on inclines and such, especially when towing. That is pretty informative.

Yes, it does change behavior.

On my Ford Fusion, it has a display that shows a tree with leaves. The more you stay off the pedal, the more leaves on the tree. I change the display to show the standard instant mpg and bar graphs. It also displays the mpg for the trip segment when you turn off the ignition, i.e. the amount you drove since the last turn of the key. It also has a hybrid range that shows on the display, and as you accelerate you pop out of it and the engine kicks on. You want to stay in that for maximum MPG - it's like a game. The other day I filled up and drove about 6 miles home and got 52. Our overall average in 60,000 miles is around 35 if I recall.

It's my main gauge unless I'm using the navigation screen.

Get the ultra gauge and with its screens you can squeeze even more out. I like seeing how the instant torque and horse power are effected by wind and terrain.

I hardly break 18.2 barrier on my 2.7 with 3.73. But again , it is all local driving with a light every half miles

I'd kill for 18.2mpg in my 3.5EB. I'm at 15.4mpg (using the digital speedometer screen 99% of time). I have the same driving conditions as you. Maybe I need to switch to the mpg screen.
