Thoughts or anyone done any oil analysis? Any oil type make this engine run smoother (not that is doesn't already).

Thanks!
I just had my first OC a few weeks ago. There are several posts here and elsewhere with use oil analyses, but in the end I looked for oil that had the Ford Specification and the Honda HTO-06. I don't know if the Honda spec matters, but I liked the fact that it is a spec for turbos. Thing is, this left me with several oils to choose from including Mobil 1 and Pennzoil Platinum (and Ultra). Don't know about the Valvoline.

I used Pennzoil Platinum 5W-30. I would have used Ultra but WalMart didn't have that while the Platinum was on sale for $19.77 for a 5qt jug.

I wouldn't say the engine is any "smoother" since I changed the oil. With luck, I'll never have a problem with the truck that I attribute to the oil.

With a DI Turbo engine, look for an oil that not only meets factory specs but has a very low Noak to help prevent valve deposits. I settled on 5w30 Quaker State Ultimate Durability with a Noak of 8.8, TBN 8.5, and meets Ford specs and Honda Turbo spec HTO-6. Readily available at Walmart for $21.xx for a 5qt. Jug.

The Penzoil Pure One Platinum, Ultra and Mobil 1 Oils are likely just fine, but the Noak is a little higher in the 10-11 range.

Regardless of brand, on a new truck, I would definitely use something that has all necessary certifications per Ford. I don't think brands like Amsoil submit their lubes for certification.

I just know that mine is getting whatever Ford recommends during its warranty life. FWIW, my dealership does 3 changes with the Motorcraft semi-syn and the State I/M inspection for $75/yr. You might check and see what yours offers.

I use Motorcraft 5w-30 for a couple of reasons I guess.

1: I'm "brand loyal" (It's the oil that comes in the trucks, and it's the oil the dealer would be putting in if they changed your oil anyways.)
2: The oil is cheap. $17 vs. $20+

I'm not a fan of bulk oil, but the dealer is giving me an oil change and tire rotation for $39.95. I guess I'll let them continue doing that every 5K, especially since an oil change on the 2.7 is a PIA.

There are a lot of choices, most are good. I used Mobile 1 from Walmart on my previous vehicle and would likely use that again if I decide to do it myself. Cost effective and proven oil.

The oil change in the 2.7 is a pain? Couldn't be easier IMO.

I'm impressed, of course. I could do it too, but as I said $39.95 is not bad for that amount of work. You do your own tire rotations too?

Yeah that is cheap, unfortunately I don't trust anyone. Had a local Valvoline changing my oil in my last ecoboost, the problem is they weren't changing the oil. Adding oil if needed, but not changing. Not changing the filter either. Took my motor effing up to realize it.
