All the 3.3L trucks that I saw had lower payload ratings. Hauling my motorcycle on a receiver mounted carrier (500 lbs), with that much weight up high and cantilevered almost 18" behind the rear bumper want a higher payload capacity. That's why my current truck is a F250 (light duty).

I'm not too concerned about the price difference or slight difference in gas mileage between the 2.7L and 5.0L motors. My main concern is short distance trips in cold weather, and it sounds like the 5.0L motor maybe more tolerant for my driving needs.

Also, I believe the 2017 5.0L has a DI fuel system only, that is why I'm looking at 2018 models with the dual fuel injection systems.
The 2017 5.0L doesn't have DI, it has Sequential multi-port electronic injection. 2018 added Direct Injection to the multiport injection.

I've been very happy with my '17 2.7 for in town and local driving. It's very responsive and almost feels like driving a large car vs a full sized pickup truck. I like driving it locally way more then my '12 F250 diesel or my '07 F150 w the 5.4 v8.

Not sure how the short local trips would effect long term reliability, I'm thinking either motor would be just fine.

If it was my decision, I would test drive both and the decide based on which one felt better to me and go with that and not sweat it.

Thank you, I didn't realize that. I'll open my search to 2017 trucks with 5.0L motors, unless there's any real advantages of the new 10 speed vs 6 speed transmission?

Depends how long you want to drive your truck. 5.0 is the better long term motor and has to be since its been around longer. My 2.7l has been great for 25 months since new. Prefer it over the 5.0 to drive. But i wont keep this ford past warranty.

If you plan on keeping it for a long time like your old truck, get the 5.0L. It's a 300,000 mile engine. Mine had 375.

Wat? The 5.0 is better in the longevity department because it's been around longer? So the old-school 460 must be even better, right?

Any of the motors will serve the OP quite well. His decision should be based more on what he enjoys driving and what will pull his trailer well, and less on longevity and how the motor will handle short trips.

I replaced my '15 2.7 with a '17 5.0. There were many reasons for my decision and I have no regrets.

Also, I never really got used to the way the 2.7 sounded when you step on the gas. I guess I am more old school than I thought.

Have not driven the 2.7 but have driven both the 3.5L and the 5.0L and went with the 5.0L

The first thing I found with the ecoboost is how busy it feels spinning up repeatedly over and over just driving around town whereas the 5.0L was there all the time. Just driving around town you may be entertained by the turbos constantly bumping you in the back to move you here and there, but the 5.0L just feels absolutely effortless speeding you on your way with the power always there all the time.

I have had this truck for over a week and am absolutely in love.
