The phone mount is above the cable, although not shown in the picture. This keeps most excess cable behind the dash. When it gets warmer, I will see if there is a way to route the cable through an opening without drilling a hole someplace, which I don’t think looks any better.
That said. I like the charge cord location coming out of the storage bin best

Here's my iPhone mount(cheap). Phone fits perfectly in the top cup holder.

Simplistic & hands free AA compatible phone mount
Grew tired of dealing with cables all over my console, so I got a magnetic charging cable and an adjustable phone mount with the intention of having a clean install. This setup works great with Sync 3 and Android Auto, allowing me to simply set the phone in the mount without having to fiddle with the micro usb port.
Getting out of the truck I simply rotate the phone backwards away from the mount, breaking the magnetic link and off I go.
Note to the console shifters: Sorry yer outta luck with this setup
Used a dremel to cut off the bottom of the stand.
M5x20mm Allen head bolt with a 7/16 stepped up to a 1 inch washer. Did it this way because I was unsure of my mounting height. This would give me some adjustment up and down. Painted washers black to blend in.
Plenty of clearance on the backside of the console.
Console trim can be easily removed first by pulling up at the rear with the lid up, then pulling backwards away from the dash. The front clips are tight, but with some brute force and finesse they will come backwards . Used a 1/2 drill bit to drill all the holes through the console and lined each one with a rubber grommet. Not pictured is a 1/2 hole coming up directly below the cubby, lining the charging cable up into a straight shot for the mount up above.
Used a knife to slowly whittle a hole big enough in the rubber lining for the cable and grommet to fit. Ended up cutting one side of the grommet, allowing me to keep the hole smaller and keep some resistance on the cable. To the right in the center cubby I ran a 2nd cable to the console charging port, for passengers or those times when I need a quick charge. I keep micro usb to magnetic adapters in the truck.
My S7 Edge for size reference. No issues using Amazon Music, Google Maps or Waze so far. Attempted with a Nexus 6 and the phone was to wide, so you 6"+ phone guys may be outta luck.

4WD **** Mod
I have an XLT (no 4 auto) and a locking diff. In the snow I like to pop the locker on rather than shifting to 4h. Well typically when there is snow it is also cold. When it is cold I wear gloves. When I wear gloves there is no way to pull that low profile ****. So a little grip tape stuck in the recesses has solved that problem .
