Hi, I'm anxiously awaiting for my 2018 Lariat SCREW 3.5EB to arrive. I'm researching on tunes and haven't seen anything definitive on the best one for drivability and overall reliability.
For myself, I do 30% city and 70% highway driving. While commuting for my daily drive to work, I would like to boost the fuel efficiency of the engine while using 87 octane. On the occasion, I can always want the most power/torque possible for passing or just having fun. Overall good drivability is a must! I don't plan to change the exhaust, because I want to keep the noise level down... i prefer everything else stock.

I would like to hear from Gen 2 owners on their experiences with various tuners currently available for the 3.5EB

reliability is always best stock regardless of generation. also a tune wont yield better mpg. a few may claim this, but it just doesn't measurably add to mpg. what it does on an eco is give you gobs of extra power.

best is subjective as some want most power, some, best customer service, some certain type of shifting, etc. so hard to give one answer.

You can't expect to get more power by burning more fuel and have your gas mileage go up.
But I guess you could get a tune to give your mileage a boost if you gave up some performance.

Are you prepared to give up most of the warranty on your 2018 truck?

I ran the 5* Star 91 Perf/Tow tune on my 2011 Eco for 5+ years. It's a nice conservative tune that really improved the power and shifting strategy. I'd pull the tune when I went in for dealer service and return it to stock. I never had an issue that I could tie to the tune. The problems I did have with the truck were not (IMHO) tune related. And, I had a 5 year, 100k mile extended warranty and had warranty work performed up to 90k miles.

Yes, warranty denial is a risk. I suppose if you go with a radical tune, beat the snot out of the truck, blow something up, and take it in with the tune still installed, you might have a problem. That's not how I use mine though and no work was ever denied in the 85k miles I had the tune installed while under warranty.

I will be looking at a 5* Star tune for my 2018 Lariat once I get 5000 miles on it.

take anything you read on f150ecoboost.net with a grain of salt. every forum is full of opinitiated people but that forum in particular is not a very objective group of folks (lots of "delicate" people" too) so dont put much stock in what's posted there...

I would just get used to hitting the Sport button on your truck for awhile. I imagine it will be awhile before they come out with a reliable tune for the 2018s. I think it was just in the last 6 months that the 2017s came out. It should be a very similar truck, but I wouldn't make any changes until after they say it is for the 2018 models and maybe waiting to see if anyone had any testimonials. Besides, there is a good chance that if you are looking at tunes that you are going to do some upgrading to the engine, wheels, tires, and etc. Might as well tune after you do all or some of that.

My buddy up the street tuned mine. Tuned it on an e30 mix and did zero else to the truck. Went to the track and my best pass was a 13.09 @ 105.98 mph in the 1/4 with an 1/8 of 8.48 @ 85.60

These gen2's move the **** out. I took down numerous fbo hemi's cutting much better 60's than me lol.

Truck is a 2wd screw 17 with the 3.15 open diff rear end.
