Platinum 5.0 oil color and level
2.7Ecoboost posted an excellent video on changing the oil in a 2.7L Ecoboost. He changed his oil at 2162 miles, and made the comment on how nasty the oil looked at 2162 miles.
I thought I would post a photo of the oil on my dipstick, so you could see the level, and color of the oil. I have roughly 2500 miles on it now. The first time I checked the oil was at 500 miles, and the level is exactly the same now (about half way in the hash marks). Either it wasn't full from the factory, or it used about 1/2 of a quart in the first 500 miles. Has anybody else kept track of their oil level? The oil color seems to be the same for the past 1500 miles.
I just got the oil I plan on using for my first oil change:

My 2001 expedition and 2007 Mercury are at that level after I change the oil using 6 quarts and oil filter.
It's normal.

Thanks! That's about where my '05 5.4L was with the recommended 7.0 quarts, and filter. Since I'm not familiar with the 5.0L Coyote, V-8, which takes 7.7 quarts with filter, is why I'm asking.

Color has nothing to do with the ability of the oil to lubricate properly.

Just remember, Ford does not make motor oils, its set their specs and then it's a bid process. lowest bid ? I had to go through this with my Harley buddy's insisting on HD oil.

Motorcraft oil is hardly a derogatory "lowest bid" motor oil product. It is produced by ConocoPhillips (COP) to Ford's exacting specifications with a formulation very similar to COP's flagship Kendall GT-1. ConocoPhillips also makes Honda branded oils and several other respected lubricant labels.
