bakflip Revolver X2 or X4.
Can anyone comment on the long-term quality of either one of these Tonneau covers? Thanks

I feel qualified to answer this. I have the REV revolver from Ford. This cover is essentially the same as the Backflip. I've had mine for 18 months and already have some cracks in the cover material. I've kept 303 protectant on it since new. I'm currently seeking a warranty replacement through Ford. Unfortunately I would not recommend it due to these reasons.

I have a 1 month old X2. I have 1 line like ^^^ that guy. Mine isnt ripped, but the panels dont move right and I get a crease like he has.
Before I had this, I bought a BakFlip and it leaked like a sieve from the molding between the panels. They took it back, and I bought the X2 instead. Next time I buy a tonneau or bed cover it wont be from Bak. Just my experiences. |

It's a great top and overall works well. Slight leakage at the tailgate but otherwise very good. I know it didn't dry out from not being protected. If I don't get a warranty I'm switching to the Weathertec alloy cover.

From what I could tell, the X4 has a different top material than the X2. Not the faux leather that the Ford one has. I saw an X4 in a store and it seemed pretty sturdy. Does anyone have an X4 and can comment how well it's been holding up? This is the one I'm wanting to get, but if it has the same problem, then I may need to do some more looking.

My Revolver X2 is almost 3 years old. No problems other than the logo thingy starting to peel off..

My Ford branded x2 has been through 1 year and a cold Canadian winter and it’s held up well... I use 303 but recently decided to start using armour all, looks brand new still. |

Coming up on three years with my X2 and no problems whatsoever. Love its versatility.

3 years with the X2 without any issues.

I have the X4 and so far so good. I had the generation before the X2 on my Ram and the rubber trim pulled away like the pictures above. |
Has anyone tried the truxedo sentry versions? |

How long of a period of time? a week? a month?

No problems with my X2, but I don't leave it rolled up for long periods.

I'm in Florida and my truck stays outside so take this as an extreme example of hot, sunny weather exposure. After 2 years, the corner material has peeled away, the logo plate has fallen off (wouldn't have thought of that if another post hadn't mentioned it) and the biggest issue I have is that the felt on the underside came apart from the aluminum and just dangled. I believe the heat from the sun melted the glue. I loved the idea of the revolver X2 but functionally, I would not buy another one. Hopefully the X4 fixes these issues.

I've had an X4 on my truck for about a month and so far I am very disappointed. The rubber seals on either side of the cover still have ripples in them and have not flattened out like the manual said they would. I then tried the heat gun method that the manual said to use and discovered the adhesive that holds the seals down was failing in the front and back of the cover. The ripples are not only annoying aesthetically but are also allowing water in the bed.
I've opened up a ticket with Real Truck (where I bought it) and they are handling the issue with Bak for me. So far, Bak is only willing to send me new seals which isn't an acceptable solution to a $800 cover leaking in less than a month. Really wish I had just gone with an Access cover like my old truck. They sent me a brand new cover (minus hardware) for practically nothing after mine ripped. It never leaked either. |
Does anybody know what is the difference between the X2 & X4?

X2 has vinyl over the top of the metal slats. The x4 has no vinyl and the slats are matte black.
x4 has a different vinyl material that is matte, the slats are still raw aluminum underneath (unless they changed it since the spring) but they operate the same. I like mine but the finish quality could use some work. The logo was popping off when i took it out of the box, somehow it's still holding on for dear life lol. The ends of the rails are now back to aluminum, pretty sure they just used a sharpie to color the where it was cut to size. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.f15...4baa90f094.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.f15...9e90bd3292.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.f15...f2cde6e5c2.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.f15...26730a5cbe.jpg This is the only pic i have of it rolled up, looks the exact same as the x2. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.f15...4379ef2ff2.jpg |
Hmmm. What I described is what I was told by the guys on Bak website chat.
I never actually seen a X4 in person, so IDK. Sorry for any confusion. Either way my next tonneau will not be a Bak. BTW your rubber seals look nice and flat. Mine look like cooked bacon. |

Took about a week but they went down on their own. I would guess your's where applied less than perfectly which causes them to pucker. Honestly my biggest issue is that my tailgate hits the edge of the cover, but im sure if i spent some more time adjusting it i would mostly eliminate it, but it does cause it to seal well.
What's that model of canoe rack that you have? Thanks |
