Default Bad Form to ask dealer to swap lugs?

I have an appointment tomorrow to take my 18 XLT SCrew into the dealer to get the oil changed for the consumption test, flash the transmission to get rid of rattle and bumpy shifting, rotate the tires and turn them around on the rims (black sides out).

To proactively remedy the swollen lug issue, I bought a set of the Gorilla Lugs from a member here. As I don't have a 200# torque wrench, would it be bad manners for me to ask the dealership service guy to put the Gorillas on when he did the wheel work?

Or, should I just let them do the work and put on the OEM lugs back on and spend $25 on a torque wrench at Harbor Freight so I can put them on myself?

Thanks.

Buy the torque wrench and do it yourself. The torque wrench is an investment.

Absolutely get the torque wrench. I always re-torque after the wheels have been off for any reason. Great tool to have.

Also, look up the torque specification, my recollection is 150 pounds, not 200.

Your correct...

I prefer using the Torque Limiting Extension Bar. Yes I checked them after with a calibrated torque wrench and they do really well.

I agree. Get a torque wrench. Just replace them one at a time, on the ground. I’ve seen those dudes completely CRANK those lug nuts on with no torque stick attached to a gun. They don’t know if they’re getting 80 or 300 lb-ft (as they don’t know what pressure is coming out of the line - could depend greatly on how much pressure is in the tank, how many people are using air at that time, how well any in-line pressure regulator is working, how well-maintained their air gun is, or any other number of factors). And most don’t care.

Thanks to the guys who are giving me the proper torque readings.

Please let me clarify. I am aware that the torque should be 150ft/lbs. Most wrenches give 150 as their max, but I prefer not to use any instrument at the top of it's range. It's the calibration guy in me.

You're convincing me to get the wrench. Sounds like good advice. Thanks!

Truth be told the dealer tire jockeys are probably going to be using an impact driver to remove and tighten your lug nuts. I'll bet they are nowhere near torque value. In my instance, barely tight, as I was able to use a 1/2" drive ratchet to remove them, some I could have used a 3/8" ratchet. Also because of them having the tires/wheels on and off because of steering problems they are indented and starting to swell.
