Default Baby seat / Child seats in the back of Super Crew

I've got 2 kids currently, and will be having a 3rd in the coming months. That makes 3 kids in child seats. One thing I overlooked is the Super Crew only has TWO latch points for child seats. The middle one is missing. I cannot find out why they didn't put one in the middle. I guess I can use the seat belt to fasten them in, but what a hassle.

I'm posting, just in case I missed something. It's a shame that they would leave this out.

You can double up the latches on each side for whatever you put in the middle position ( they are extra large/wide) , providing the strap is long enough. I ended up just using the seat belt for the middle seat base, and to be honest, it holds the base in tighter then the one that uses the latches. My third seat is a booster, and while i have it hooked to the latch points, its not necessary. The latches do nothing from a safety perspective with the boosters. We ran into a similar issue with the third row in our explorer. There are only latches on one side. Ultimate we wouldn't put the babies that far back anyway, and our other two boys are in boosters, so it wasn't a huge deal. Short story long, you'll be fine.

Thanks for the feedback. I actually tried a seat in the middle last week, but the angle which the buckle clips into the LATCH point, it makes really hard to take off. Instead of the buckles pulling straight back on the LATCH, it pulls it at an angle, jamming the buckle release mechanism. Really had to work to get it off. We'll just resort to using the seat belt.

Any idea why they didn't put one in the middle? I can't imagine the cost being the issue. Some sort of safety concerns?

I think most people don't have 3 kids in car seats all at once and use a truck to haul them. I use the middle belt with the car seat in the middle...works perfect for me.

The manual specifically says not do do this.

"Never attach two child safety seats to the same anchor. In a crash, one anchor may not be strong enough to hold two child safety seat attachments and may break, causing serious injury or death."

Seriously, anyone suggesting to double up on latches needs to step away from the kb and reevaluate priorities

Check the specs on your safety seat first before doing this.

Most seats will list a maximum width for anchor points to be used. Even if the anchors are within the limits of the car seat, I'm not sure if they were designed to anchor two latches?

Pointless reply but I remember riding on the center console as a kid changing gears and steering. I was just thinking about this the other day when I took my 9 year old nephew to eat and was told he had to ride in the back because he isn't 5' or 10 years old yet. His mother isn't 5'

Zero car or car seat manufacturers will ok sharing a latch among 2 car seats at the same time

I fit three across:

Use the seatbelt for the middle seat.
