Default AVS Aeroskin and damage to paint?

First of all, this site has been an amazing resource, both in my decision to purchase my '15 Lariat a couple of months ago (first ever Ford, coming from a Nissan), as well as answering general questions I've had, and decisions on which mods I want to do. Thank you to all.

Now my question... I'm interested in getting a bit of hood protection against rock chips (just noticed my first one the other day). I really like the sleek low profile look of the AVS Aeroskin hood deflector. My only concern is the 3M adhesive used to stick it directly to the hood, versus the standard higher profile bolt on deflectors available from Ford and others.

I've noticed a number of you have the Aeroskin installed. Does the 3M adhesive damage the paint at all, and does water/dirt/road grime get up underneath it behind the 3M, possibly also damaging the paint? I'm worried that at some point I may want to remove it, and then be left with paint damage on the hood.

Anyone have any input?

Thanks.

The Aeroskin is my favourite also. You know Ford sells it as an accessory too, right? Has a cute little blue Ford oval in the corner.

The tape doesn't create a complete seal around it, so that water can drain out if any does get in. Therefore, there is the possibility of crud getting in too. The worst damage I can see you having is some slight scuffs or discolouration. Might even be able to buff it back up to normal if you do decide to take it off.

My feeling is the added protection from stonechips, and the sleek look vs. the bolt on style outweighs the effect of some minor paint imperfections.

I did not know you could get it directly from Ford. I'll call my dealer and ask about pricing, although I can imagine it will be pricier than purchasing online (I'm in Canada).

Thanks for the input. I guess I'm more worried about what the tape being stuck on there for a couple of years will do to the paint long term.

Just like factory decals, fishing wire and WD-40 to remove.

Because I'm in Canada, I'm forced to go through Amazon.ca. It's $108.88 CAD, plus $22.98 shipping for me.
