Don't let that worry you! 3 of the last 4 cars we bought (2 Fords and 1 Honda) had add ons. When we came in for either the internet pricing or organizational pricing, they never came into play. The dealers have very little in those and seldom (IMO) come into play with a savy buyer.

Autonation Katy and Friendly Ford of Crosby had the best advertised prices in my search.
The truck I wanted wasn't a rare configuration, so there were several in the area.
I went with Friendly Ford, but only because they were closer to my home.
Great initial experiences with both.

I have bought my last 3 trucks through Autonation Katy. They have great sales people and always do what they can to get the deal done. NOW the Service department is terrible. They are so busy 24/7. My 15' has had several warranty issues and it always takes 2-3 days for them to look at it. It would be nice to have priority since I bought my truck there. They service all of Katy which if you live there you know has grown like crazy.

Lately I have gone to Tommy Vaughn Ford for Service. Great Service Department.

Think my biggest challenge is tracking down a SuperCrew 157 wheelbase with 5.0 and 4wd. The unicorn of trucks it seems. Cars.com and Auto Trader have been helpful with a nationwide search, but wish they had wheelbase in the filter.

Forgot to mention. 36 gallon tank... I'm being damn picky, but if I'm shelling out the $$$...
Have you tried going into a dealer and have them do a search for your particular option set? They have a lot better tools and access to accurate inventory of almost all dealers. It's what I've done for my '14 Escape Titanium and '16 F150 Lariat. If you get a dealer/salesperson that cares then they'll help you locate the perfect vehicle and do what they can to get it for you. The Escape was a dealer trade and the F150 my dealer bought off another dealer and had it shipped up to my dealer.

I just got mine at Friendly in Crosby 2 weeks ago. Everything went well not really any pressure, the whole place has a "good ol boy" feel. Even though they are a dealership and do what they do to make money, they make you feel like you are their friend. Only issue I had is I wanted a 2.7 EB. Didn't have one within 2500 miles with the config I wanted. I went with the 5.0 and couldn't be happier. I also got a free spray in liner, and my oil changes are $15 for life.

I got mine from AutoNation Katy back in May or so (2016 Model). I had a pretty awesome sales guy named Jordan Fahy. All went well with the sales process and they advertise online discounts that are far more than any of the other dealers; second place for discounts is Planet Ford off I45 North. Plus, AutoNation Gulf Freeway store has tons of inventory too, so there were about 1200 F150s I could pick from between the Katy and Gulf Freeway locations, giving me best options out there.

Their aftermarket guy is named Eugene. I was skeptical at first as he was sort of quiet and somewhat unassuming. But he got the job done, on time and for a good price (lift kit, wheels, tires, etc). After I got to know him a bit, he opened up a bit more and was more personable.

Service department is questionable. First visit, the SA was a joke but I won't launch into the story here. I about went ballistic and ended up in the Sales Manager's office with the intent to return the truck on the spot (I hadn't owned it 30 days yet). Service Drive Manager came in and we spoke some. She asked me to give her a few days to sort out what happened; she came back, booked me in for another visit with one of her more reputable SA's and things went really well. So it's a 50/50 with them.

All my buddies tell me I should have gone to Mac Haik off I-10 in Memorial City. From what I gather, they have a great service team there, but my interaction with their sales department (before I visited AutoNation) wasn't so great.

Just my two cents.

Retired from the Marines back in 2010 and got into nursing and landed here in Texas, have had my '04 Mazda 3 hatchback since I bought it new while stationed in NC and after 183000+ miles with little extensive maintenance required, it's time to retire what's been a good car to me and upgrade/spoil myself a bit since the road from medical retirement to nursing has been a long arduous road.

Criteria is straight forward, I've narrowed down what I want. Black interior, preferable white exterior but flexible. 5.0 with minimum of 3.55 rear for future lift, ideally would prefer 157 wheelbase, know I'll have to add tow mirrors after the fact (Can add mirrors after the fact, can't increase bed length). Would prefer to avoid moonroof, but too hard to pass up deals on outgoing 2016s. Must have LED headlights, I work nights and thus want optimum visibility when driving. So obviously I know I'll be shopping Lariat and above for above options or do a lot of aftermarket upgrades on an XLT to option out (Raptor Retrofit headlights, tow mirrors plus switch and module upgrade in doors, Katzkin leathers), either way it's give or take either direction and know the money is gonna go out the wallet

So I've found a few near matches, but have no background on local dealers on who to avoid, who's willing to work with the customer, who'll have great customer service after the purchase, etc. Hence why I turn to this forum, as I've noticed a population from here in Houston.

This is what I found that I'm looking at, but hoping I'm not getting in over my head. Wish it didn't have moonroof, will add tow mirrors on my own eventually. But know if I wait and order a 2017, I'll be paying considerably more unless I keep playing the waiting game. http://www.autonationfordkaty.net/ve...fw1ef0gfb10761

Found its clone in Austin and Missouri, and Alaska. So back to the dealers....? Thanks all for the input and I'll continue to quietly lurk until I plop down the cash and make the buy (hopefully in near future)

I wanted to purchase my 2nd 150 at AN Katy because I live 10 minutes away, but the sales guy who initially spoke to me didnt speak very good english, its no big deal except for the fact that you're doing a 40k+ transaction - so I went back the next day and spoke with someone else, because I didn't want to be rude. The new sales person let the 1st sales guy with horrible broken english go value my trade... Needless to say.... they offered me 16k for my truck. I went to Big Star Ford in Pearland, where I purchased exactly what I wanted with no add ons and they gave me close to 20k for my trade. Big Dog (Brad) is a sales manager there. He will take good care of you. Their price beat every other dealer in Houston that I had shopped. Also, I was in and out there in under 1.5 hours.

Good thread. You guys that do internet buying, do you just draft an email and fire it off or do you go through a site like Trucar or Edmunds and let them email. Also, how do you word it, do you just list what you're looking for and give me your best price?

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned AutoNation Gulf Freeway in Houston. I live in New Orleans but couldn't find the options I wanted anywhere nearby. Found an exact match at AN Gulf Freeway. At the time, they had about 1,500 F150s in stock or on the way. Actually, they show both their stock and AN Katy's too. I think AN Katy may do the same. Their Internet pricing was much lower than anything around New Orleans. They gave me a good trade-in commitment over the Internet, so I got serious about negotiating. First I told them I wasn't paying for the wheel locks, tint, keyed tailgate lock, or clear door edge protectors. They said no problem. Then I pointed out that they had three other trucks exactly the same except for the colors for a lower prices. They argued a bit but gave me the cheaper pricing. So I drove my trade-in there and made the deal all in one day - a little over 700 miles. I dealt only with the salesman, not Edmunds or anybody else. Johnathon Wade was my salesman. He was a little hard to understand at first with his thick Hispanic accent, but it all worked out. They actually surprised me at pickup time with a free bedliner. They said it is RhinoShield but I didn't get any documentation to prove it. I hope my local Ford dealers give me good service since I won't be going back to Houston for it. Actually, I hope I don't need any service!
