I only drive my truck once or twice a week..since it has been colder out I need to go for a long trip before my auto start/stop will work - I get the vehicle charging status.

Might be prorated.

If not go to Autozone or such and they will test it for free. A lot faster than going to dealership. No appointment needed.

Is there a start stop feature on the 2016 3.5?

Not on 2016. I think 2017 is suppose to have it.

this.

I have noticed recent cold weather affecting the auto stop, which is as expected IMO.

One thing I noticed is if the defrost is on --no matter what the temperature setting is on the heat dial the auto start will not work. Also if the passenger turns the heat up while you are at a stop and the truck has auto stopped it will start.

It does still turn off with the defrost on, depending on the humidity in the cab. The truck has a humidity sensor which dictates whether or not the compressor turns on to dry out the air. If the air is dry in the cab, it won't engage the compressor, and start/stop will work. If it's humid, it'll run the compressor to blow dry air onto the windshield and get rid of moisture/frost, and start/stop will be disabled. I've had my engine shut down with the defrost on before.
