It's not always about how many happy meals you can or can't buy with the savings. For more than a hundred years we've been carelessly blowing automotive engine exhaust and every other kind of poison into the air -- for most of that time, with little consideration for its long-term effects on us, on wildlife, and on the planet in general. If you think that's a load of BS because you don't see this living at 8,000 feet ASL in Colorado or in the Mississippi delta bayou country, maybe you need to get out more. Been to Los Angeles lately? Chicago? New York City? Mumbai? Beijing? The pollution in some of these places is better than it was 30 years ago. But in others it's a lot worse, and not getting any better. If you want to leave your kids and grandkids a toxic cesspool to live in, then by all means, don't give the environment a second thought.

Otherwise, a stupid little thing like letting your vehicle engine shut off during periods when having it running serves no purpose anyway, is a pretty painless way to do some small bit of good, or at least to lessen the damage.

There is no way this system inconveniences anybody. At least not anybody who has any clue about how a vehicle works and how to to drive one.
