I just unlock mine from my key fob, easier than walking back to the door to push a button..

My 2017 XLT does not have a key slot on the tailgate. There is a hitch light where it would have been.

Interesting... I thought the XLTs had a key hole, I guess I didn't notice that. My bad.

We only have a couple F-150 XLs or XLTs here, and unfortunately none of them are mine. I never really paid attention, more just assumed it was there since they had an easily accessible key.

Better hope the electric locks don't fail.

There's a manual release under the access panel on the tailgate. However, if you have a tonneau that requires the tailgate to go down to open the cover you're screwed.

Looking at the diagram, connector C4498 is for the tailgate lock actuator. If you remove the tailgate inside panel and simply unplug this connector, that should do it. I just tried it on my XLT and it worked. After unplugging, I closed the tailgate and hit lock with my FOB. I heard the doors lock but not the tailgate, lights flashed as normal. I checked the doors were locked and the tailgate wasn't.

It is the two wire connector that is visible through the hole. Located on the right side of the latch mechanism.

I agree. It bugs me too when I walk to back of truck and it's still locked. Besides turning auto lock off, is there a way using forscan that can enable auto unlock once the car goes into park. That would solve the problem
