Next time you open your hood, pull down and push back up on it slowly and watch the hood where it attaches to the hinges. The hood flexes A LOT. I'd be willing to bet that if a strong guy put both hands on the hood and pulled down hard and fast, the hood could be kinked. But then again, maybe the struts would give enough to prevent it. Some of you older folks may remember when there were a lot of Chevys being driven around with hoods that were kinked at he hinge point. Probably back in the mid to late 70s I guess.
i open the hood one a lot of cars and trucks and they all flex. leverage is a bitch.

As someone mentioned the Chevy hinge would rust or lock up. With the hood being as long as it was AND the crumple section placed just in front of the hinge mount on the hood, once a hinge locked up = bent hood.
I used to grab the hood from it's outer most part and "rock it" down to make sure each hinge started to compress/close.

mine will twist up on the side in high wind passing a semi. more than once i have had to stop and make sure it is latched. rubber stops are adjusted and panel gap is even all around. it just flexes that much, seen it alot at work. some worse than others, i find it is more dominant on trucks with bug deflectors. could be directing more wind under the front edge?

I first noticed how much the hood deflects when it is being blow dryed at the end of the wash. That hood moves all over the place by the 120 mph air being blown down on it. Then the other day the wind was blowing from the rear of the truck about 15 mph while I was driving 62 on a 2 lane black top, met a semi coming at me at probably the same speed so with the wind and all a closing speed of 139 mph. That hood seemed to raise 1/2 inch in front of me in the raised portion to the left. It did it several times during the drive every time I met a semi coming into the wind. It was colder and I wonder if the grill vanes in front were open. It was shocking because I had not witnessed it before that windy day after 9500 miles on the cluster. Oct 19, 2016 Now I keep imagining a wrapped around hood one day or blown off and up like a kite with no tail. Hope that front latch is super strong. That hood definitely shows some of the same characteristics as a beer can. Oh Ford what have you done to us ?

So you never been in a car wash but can answer the question??? LOL
To answer the OP question. Yes it does pretty bad but never caused any damage. I do remember the 14 doing this also but did not ripple as bad. I do believe ford used a cheaper thinner aluminum on these new trucks.
I will still go through the car wash. If you can't take your car or truck through a car wash without damage there is a bigger issue with the quality of vehicle. We have always used the car wash and never had a problem.
