Question Anyone using a K+N on a 3.5 EB?

I searched the forums and can't find anything on this regarding the 3.5 EB and adding a K+N drop in. I now have 13K miles and need to change the OEM air filter. I have added a K+N to a lot of vehicles, but with this ecoboost I am not sure I should. I am assuming the TT setup is pretty well tuned as it is, will a K+N add anything, and more importantly, is it safe? As in warranty?

I would not, only because of the oil. Too much and it gets into the intake. Not enough, and it does not trap all the dirt. Aside from that, I'm not totally sold on all the "data" some companies put out regarding their products. Is it hype or not? Don't really know. And did I mention the sky may be falling?

Unless you are constantly driving through a dust cloud and air filter is usually good for at least 20k miles.

I would never recommend any foam/oil style air filter for any modern vehicle engine. Carburetor engine? Fine.

I would suggest buying a Motorcraft air filter off of Amazon every 20k miles.

Everything I've read in regards to just throwing a K&N on a stock engine is it's basically wasted money. I had one on my old f-150, noticed zero difference in performance or fuel economy, but it was a birthday gift from mom.

Keep a name brand standard filter in it. Motorcraft from Amazon is $11.19. Fram is $9.68. More choices at very slightly more money over at Rock Auto. Buy a case and have them handy.

Right out of the box a K$N doesn't filter as well and isn't worth the extra cash unless you'll be running Baja

Those were hype. Regular filters don't choke the engine, and the oil from the K&N filters is bad. They also still let crap get through. Definitely no good.

If you like choices there are some alternatives (3.5 EB):
  • Stock Motorcraft FA1883 Air Filter
  • AEM 28-20385 dry flow Air filter: these cost 4 times what a Motorcraft does but are cleanable/reusable
  • Fram CA10262 Extra Guard Panel Air Filter
I have only found marketing hype about any of these. There doesn't seem to be any scientific comparative data about greater or lesser filtration or resistance to airflow. There are some idiots on u-tube aiming leaf blowers thru various filters thinking that they are proving something

Edit: AEM is apparently owned by K+N

I have a K&N in my 2016. Dry filter and I noticed a little more acceleration from the jump. Other than that, I haven't noticed a significant jump in gas mileage etc.

The best upgrade you can do to an ecoboost is a tune and exhaust. I wouldn't mess with the air filter. Btw, Fram sucks, I wouldn't ever use any of their filters.
