Default Anyone have the "rear park aid" mess up in cold?

So i jump in the truck this morning.

-6c

One rear door frozen. Meh, used to it now. But it is the door i didn't dry a few days ago. The door i took apart and dried with warm air works fine. So that makes tsb sucess look likely, at least for mine. Still waiting on all the tsb parts to show up.

Tailgate is frozen to the bed cover, but thats to be expected with an "add on" part.

Throw the truck in reverse and the rear sense system starts screaming at me. Shows sonething right up against the right rear. Jump out and confirm nothing there just to be sure. Little ice on the housing so i give it a wipe with my hand.

Back into the truck and it still does it. Turn the system off on the prod display and it stop screaming. Back on, screaming again.

Ran a little warm air over the outside housing and got all the ice off.

Still freaks out.

Turned the truck off a couple times to see if it would reset and work. No joy.

Worked fine when I parked it last night, buggered up overnight sittibg in the driveway it seems.

Sent a video to the dealer and they say "yup, something is wrong". Asked if i want too bring it in or wait for the door loco appointment. I tell them im fibe to wait as it should be soon as they have some of the parts already in.

Truck just doesnt seem very cold hardened. Im begining to wonder about ford's claim about cold testing....

Yes, my rear park aid would go crazy in extreme cold, particularly if some water got close to a sensor and froze. It didn't happen all the time, but enough that I could make the connection that the weather was having an effect on it.

Did you ever manage to get it fixed or do you just live with it?

Damned oddest thing ive ever seen. Although I've seen cold do a lot of strange things to aircraft sensors...

yeah, if I have done a car wash, most likely it will go crazy the next time I start and back up.

Ive seen threads on it. Ended in a flame war. Im just living with it as it seems to work fine later

A flame war? About a back up sensor?

Lol, sounds pretty stupid....internet is pretty weird sometimes.

Sounds like another cold and water issue as i went thorough a car wash yesterday and temps deopped overnight. Fits the pattern.

Maybe i'll pull the light housing off he truck and see if theres any water in the plug or housing. Plug is an easy fix: little grote electical grease and good to go. Housing is a diff story....

Ok, looks like I found it.

Took the tail light out and the connector had water in it. Blew it out with compressed air and now it works fine.

Emailed my dealer and asked them if they want me to pack it with electrical grease or just leave it until they can look at it. Waiting to hear back....

Mine does the same thing. One of the reasons I'd like to find a way to disable it.

If it's like my 2016 f150 you can just turn it off in the dash menu under "rear park aid".

I think it's also part of the blind spot monitoring system, but I don't find that very useful either...

True, but I would have to do that every time I back up. I'm hoping for a way to permanently disable it.
