Just one data point from my BMW: they recommend replacing the battery at every oil change--that's every 10k miles, at $3-500 per. Can only be done at the dealer due to the computer coding procedure.

I'll take the latest Ford quality any day of the week.
I don't mean to go off topic, but I read today that Audi, VW, BMW, and Subaru are having oil consumption problems, and the manufacturers and dealers aren't willing to do anything about it.

This has all the trappings of 'street myth' or perhaps the key word is "recommend". Any fool can subscribe to some insane recommendation, but is the recommendation necessary? There has to be some caveats attached here to make this statement complete.

Any XL can look like a Platinum. Underneath it all they are the same truck.

Sorry to interrupt your thread OP. I'll apologize for the person I quoted as well since this has nothing to do with the thread.
i'm not sure what your salesman told you, but KR/PLAt/502a are trim levels, not custom builds, and even top of the line "normal" cars BMW/MERC/? are built in assembly lines w/ diff trims as well.

its a new run truck and high level trucks will have the same prob's as XL, maybe even more because of all the gadgets.

and yes, we are paying for the same truck underneath w/ more bells and whistle's. whether it's "worth" it is up to the buyer, and Fords selling a ton of higher end trucks. you know a toyota camry and Lexus es300 are the same car also, right?

CAM303 - is that your FB photos, if not why would you do that to someone else?

They look like a nice family, I hope they gave you permission?

This is not FB, it is a truck forum.

The ford truck photo is one thing.

The family photos, you crossed the line!!

Never said KR/Plat/Lariat were custom builds. I said the exact opposite. You just reiterated what I already said: that Lariat/KR/Plat are trim levels and not custom builds. That's part of the problem. I said maybe they should be made on separate lines. Maybe if there was more emphasis on the higher trims being "different" some of the minor unexpected deficiencies wouldn't be as prevalent. Maybe different QC protocols? Not better QC, just more thorough with an emphasis on those bells and whistles/ fit & finish, etc.

Are Mercedes and BMW built on the same line with different trims? How many trim levels are there in a Mercedes S class? Regular/ 4 Matic/ AMG? Not really different trims. That's like saying getting 4x4 on your truck makes it a different trim (although some people would like to think the 2015 FX4 option makes it a different trim) I don't think this is a good comparison. Never seen a fleet model Mercedes. All I was saying is that the same person who looked over a Platinum that could be going to somebody who is gentle and caring with their truck is going to be looking over a fleet model XL that will be beat to death by the numerous city workers driving it.

Your statement stating "high level trucks will have the same problems as an XL, maybe even more because of all the gadgets" - I don't know if you realize it but you are agreeing with me here. Most of the problems we are seeing, and I'm not just talking about this forum - have to do with the technology on the higher end trucks. Why do we accept that "hey, technology fails sometimes" and not "hey, sometimes the guy painting my truck sucks sometimes."

I agree, the buyer has to decide what is "worth it" and what's not as far as options are concerned. This is the exact reason I went with a lower trim model. What do I want to afford, what do I want, what do I need. I'm not telling anybody not to buy a trim level higher than XLT. Sorry if that was misconstrued. I stated my opinion why I wouldn't. You can disagree with that and at the end of the day neither of us are going to change our minds. That's fine. I'm not trying to convince you that you made a bad purchase or that you're dumb for buying a Lariat. In fact, I hope that you are happy with it and you have many years of problem free driving and I'm sure you made a wise well informed decision based on your wants and needs.

To each his own. I like my wannabe Platinum with cloth seats. I got what I wanted out of the Platinum at 1/10th the cost. My resale won't be as high as yours. So what, I don't buy vehicles with the next owner's concerns in mind.

I'll take the latest Ford quality any day of the week.

Examples of what? I said it was my personal opinion for me not to buy a 50k truck based on my personal experience. It wasn't a blanket statement and I clearly stated it was my opinion.

Of course they really like them. Who the hell buys a $60k Platinum and tells all their friends they hate it while writing a $700 check for the monthly payment?
No, it doesn't matter to me what you had before. I'm glad you're happy with the quality of your truck. I wish you many years of safe, problem free driving and I hope you buy another Ford.

What your battery change schedule was on your previous vehicle has no relevance to me or the conversation we're having regarding Ford. My previous vehicle had 4 wheels and tires and they needed to be rotated every 5000 miles.

You'll take the latest Ford quality any day of the week? Me too. The quality of my XLT is great. Just what I expected out of a nicely optioned truck.

All the best to you and your truck.
